The runners are given the choice to take shared gold, or have officials look at a high-speed camera to determine the winner to the 10,000th of a second.
100 times out of 100 an athlete with gold in his hand is going to keep that, not roll the dice. You can't get MORE of a gold medal.

Here we had 2 guys that came up level. Remember this only applies where countback can't separate them too.
Personally I have no interest in watching fatigued athletes struggle as a bar comes back down in height. This was the perfect end IMO.

I didn’t think you could give out two gold medals and would have to proceed to a jump off until there was only one winner— guess I was wrong.
I understand why the athletes decided to share the gold medal position. A guaranteed gold medal, and all the financial incentives attached to it, is much better than a possible silver medal. But I’m cynical.
I’ve also heard this moving being praised as great sportsmanship, although I’m not sure why. Would a jump off between the two athletes be bad sportsmanship?

It was. But this shows the rule should be changed. Either jumpoff or both get only silver. Otherwise there is not good incentive to risk a jumpoff.
If it's a tie, don't they go back to who had the best record on the previous height?
If golf ended in a tie and they gave out two gold medals, would everyone here bashing Rojo agree there should be no playoff hole.
Are you scared the golfers would hurt their backs? Are you concerned that the playoff hole might be easier than the previous hole averages and so a playoff would be a true indicator of who’s best? If ten golfers had the same score at the end of regulation would you give them all gold medals? If everyone in the golf tournament had the same score should EVeRyoNe get gold medals without a playoff?
The rule stands so I don’t fault the athletes for taking their golds. But you’re aware that the rule likely was the result of a reasonable debate.
