What a pathetic race. The winner was nearly 4 hours. Probably not one person ran the entire way. Thus everyone has already failed in their quest to RUN 5 marathons in 5 days.

Did anyone go to the race to make sure PM walked the 42.2km without cutting the course?

Good point. That is really perhaps the most fascinating part of this cheater... Kip Litton had his buddy Dan Baxley and one of the reputation defender companies arguing his case. All sorts of excuses, late to the start, left the shoes a half mile away, liked to change clothes a lot, got lost, etc...all of these posters argued he was an upstanding citizen, his family loved him, and he would never cheat.

PM had some weird story about going off course at an ultra to poop and got lost getting back on the trail that made no sense whatsoever.

She's posted on some blogs about running (walking) through multiple foot fractures to justify her slow times; that also makes no sense at all. It made so little sense she earned a DQ from that race.

Now it's true, none of Kips excuses made any sense either, but at least he "tried." She hasn't even tried to come up with a reason that all her times end in :00s, in the :30s, :45s, and she sure as heck hasn't explained 23:00:00, while surrounding that time with 3 marathons in 3 days.

Come on PM. Try :) I bet you think that by ignoring it it will all go away. But PM, LRC doesn't like cheaters. LRC doesn't like people who cheat at marathons. LRC really doesn't like people who cheat at Badwater. LRC never thought that there would be two people in this world who make up races and runners.

Chris Kostman isnt DQing you, Guinness isn't DQing you. They don't care about the integrity of the results.

But the RR 100 RD does, and he did DQ you. Other RDs are on to you and I bet they are going to get awfully tired of hearing from the LRC community when you come to their races... this thead isn't dying.

If you come clean, folks will move on. Heck, if you quit racing, folks will move on.

But you just keep offering this thread candy in the form of races and results...the thread will stay alive.

My guess is that she knows the end is near. No need to come clean, just keep your head down and keep taking race entry fees and enjoy the fame until it catches up naturally. Badwater is certainly a joke for remaining silent about this, but I doubt she'll be going back next year.

What's the point? How about saying that they did it? If the course is open, why not run it? It's impressive to me how these slower runners can keep going after so much time. A lot of them have to put in MUCH long time periods training than those of us that are faster. That's a lot of dedication!

They deserve to be cheered on as much as the front runners.

Walking 6-7 hrs is not marathoning. I am all for cheering on the back of the pack. But don't cheat and claim u are more than u are.

I think you guys would be interested in this thread that I started on the FUR (Florida Ultra Runners) Facebook group. It was originally about the Rob Krar thing at Leadville, but turned into a thread about PM. Eric Spencer who ran Badwater this year saw her cheat.

Wow, pretty damning eye witness evidence from Eric Spencer, how many does that make now?

I know a runner who also saw her van come down Horseshoe at mile ~44.5 and race by them. She was hours behind my friend and suddenly her crew vehicle races by. No sign of her running or passing anyone. My friend also thought she was DNFing. Funny how her race report did not mention getting a ride down the mountain from mile. 38-45. Anyone doubt she cheated now? Multiple accounts by multiple people in multiple locations.

Wow. Just....wow. So much time spent here analyzing PMs first several spits (where she was in last/next to last place) as compared to her last few splits after mile 91 where she got super fast...she had to cheat to stay in LAST PLACE and hit the checkpoints 5 mins before the cutoff? It makes sense given her pace on a flat course in Texas - but still... she's in THAT bad of shape? She can't even walk the thing in last place???

What really bothers me is that this means any chance her crew outside of her hubby was unaware is practically nil.

To cheat 3 different times, her crew knows. They are obviously staying silent, but I wonder if they would come clean if asked directly? Or is there just this much corruption in the running community. To be able to get a whole crew together who is just as dishonest as you.... I really hope karma comes back to bite them.

Now that my comments on the Florida Ultra Runners page are officially in this thread, I might as well address them. This is Eric Spencer, Bib #2 from Badwater this year. No fake aliases needed.Here is all I will say:--I ran a race below my standards given some pre-race injuries and still finished in 36 hours, which was 10 hours ahead of PM's time (however you think she obtained it).--The only thing that I saw with my own eyes was the van driving by at approximately mile 38 coming down from Horseshoe Meadows. The van never returned. My race strategy was to take the first mountain up and down rather in control. I was actually DFL from the 8 A.M. wave to the top. But PM was the first person in the entire race that I passed, which happened at mile 24. She had a 2 hour head start and was barely moving (downhill). My immediate reaction was that the person had no chance of finishing. When the van went by me, I thought, "Yup, I was right." I would later learn that several other runners from the 7 A.M. wave saw the same thing. --I would also later hear about the eyewitness accounts from other parts along the course, which fits with my next point.--About a week after the race someone called my attention to the splits. I looked at both Darwin (mile 91) to Lone Pine (122) and also Lone Pine to the finish. What stood out was that somehow, even in a stretch where I found my 2nd wind (or probably my 7th by that point) and caught nearly every runner within 2 miles of me (independent of wave), PM was only an hour or so behind me. Over the 45 miles!!! Come on. I saw her walking about 1 mph going toward Darwin at maybe mile 80 for her as I was passing on the other side of the road. I thought it was odd since A. she was ahead of people that appeared to be moving well and B. I saw her van drive down from Horseshoe and not return. I actually said, "I thought she DNF'd," to my pacer.--The most absurd split is that she somehow beat me from Lone Pine to the finish at Whitney. My crew can back me up on this. I passed EVERY SINGLE PERSON on the Whitney Portal Road and had one of the fastest ascents among people not in the Top 10. There is a precisely 0.0000% chance that PM beat me in that stretch or would come close. I'd be happy to fly back to Cali and race any day or time. I'll even do a 20 miler to warm-up before we race those 13 miles up the mountain.--Here is a major point that I want to drive home about ultras and Badwater in particular. We all know who was near us at certain points in the race (so do the crews). If you ask me about a runner, ANY runner, in this year's race whom I was near at some point (so I saw them or their crew vehicle), I can tell you within a mile or 2 where it happened. I know where I passed people and where people passed me. When people like Darren and several others on a lonely stretch of desert road don't see PM pass them and yet she somehow mysteriously passed not one but ALL of them, then you know something is off.--To me, the alleged cheating thing is something that PM will have to live with. It doesn't change my time or my place in the race. Like it says in my FUR posts, if someone cheats at Badwater, they cheat themselves, the people they finished ahead of who EARNED that buckle, and also the DNF's--most of whom could certainly have done better and maybe finished had they used the same tactics.I have no interest in continuing on this thread. I've followed it for a few weeks. I only work on what I can control, which is improving my own race times and performances and being supportive of people who are truly competing and completing ultras.

I agree - the crew is highly suspect now as well. For them not to speak out on this, and surely they are aware, taints them in the same way. In my eyes, they are just as bad.

This whole thread isn't worth much unless people are taking the time to *write the race directors with what they witnessed*. Particularly with regards to Badwater; runners & crew members.

Otherwise this thread just becomes some kind of mean-spirited character bashing site with no accountability.

There are limits, particularly in ultramarathons, to what race directors can do to ensure people don't cheat. Which makes it everyone's responsibility to report unsportsmanlike conduct to the race directors; littering, cutting the course, and so on.

Unfortunately as the sport becomes more popular there *will be more cheating*. Most of it is benign, and only injures the character and reputation of the person who cheats. But some are getting sponsored in various ways, whether it be products, or free race entries, or reimbursements for wearing sponsor materials in race photos.

In the past I blew it off when I witnessed people, including PM, cut a course, thinking it was only hurting them. But with the increase in popularity of the sport, to maintain the integrity of the sport I will have to change and report what I see to the race directors. We will all need to. If its not getting reported to the RD's then it just becomes petty gossip.
