NXN 2023 Way too early preview: Dawn of a new Era

This is just based off of the meets from yesterday, where riverton ran very close to herriman. I would say it definitely wasn’t herriman’s best day, but was also a great race from riverton. Riverton averaged 15:26 to herrimans 15:28. Herriman is better, but riverton showed up at NXR.

Sheesh. I hope everyone gives CA the same credit after state. They already have 2 above Niwot, a 3rd one point behind, a 4th and 5th two points behind, a 6th three points behind, no Oakdale, and this wasn't even the meet they're all primed for. Yet, many are saying they don't deserve an at large? Enough with this silliness

May as well add the top 4 Northwest speed ratings.

If Niwot, the second best Colorado team of all-time, goes to nxn and loses to 2 California, 3 Utah, 1 Texas, 1 New Jersey teams. That's a L for Colorado.

Would love to see teams from states with BS courses come touch any of these. I don’t think peak Newbury Park would’ve ran faster than a 15:45 team average at Wickham.

That didn't age well. 18th place in nxr southwest, 168 speed rating average.

my predictions for right now.

I don't know if "hands down" is quite accurate. Herriman definitely has more depth, but 1 through 5, Riverton is not far off. Herriman only beat Riverton by a combined 7 seconds at their Region championship. Riverton had some illness issues with a few of their top guys at state, so they were way off their game that day. Herriman definitely has the edge, but Riverton is not completely outclassed, especially 1-3.

I'm worried they will look at Niwot's age and justify not bringing them this year assuming they will make it next year.

Crater has been gaining steam all season, and based off of how good they did last year when most people had them pegged as a top 6-10 team, I think they'll suprised people this year

McCallie's #2 guy went down about 50 meters from the finish and barely made it across the line. May have been the difference between them qualifying.

I think that the Plainfield team who missed out on qualifying by 2 points might have a greater chance of making it than most people think. Didn’t they beat the second place team a few times during the regular season?

How would Plainfield South do at NXN if they make it? Would they add to the field?

Obviously the NXN committee does not use speed ratings, but interesting data to organize the performances from the 6 regions thus far. Only noticeable outlier is the Southeast 2nd team auto qualifier only averaging 169.6. Tons of good bubble teams right now with NE, NY and Cali left to race.

That's actually a good reason to take another team over Niwot. They have 0 seniors. They can go next year.
