I think I felt too good today. Bloody hell I should have saved some of this for the race on Saturday. But even though I never went all out, the last one did give me severe "booty lock".

4:20 to 4:00 during college is routine. If Eddys a 4:00 college Sr., hate to be negative but 3:50 is a whole different level. Who here thinks he can do it?
Eddy dropped about thirty seconds in college. When the thread started, he was a sophomore with a 4:16 pr, and I think that he had run maybe a 4:45 1600m in high school, which is about a 4:29 1500m. I think that he can do it within two years, if he gets with a postcollegiate training group and pursues it seriously, but 3:50 is tough, no question. This week, he did a couple of outstanding workouts, including a 3:09 1200m (63s avg) and 4x400m with short rest in 59 and 60s. So, he left his race out on the practice field, but showed the potential to drop several more seconds THIS YEAR, with a taper week, and more in the future with the right training. Given what he does now in practice, is it that unreasonable to think that he could eventually run 61s and 62s in a 1500m race?

I don't remember my 1200 split, but I was 208 @ 800m. I was on the leader's shoulder for 1200m, and when the rest of the field made a move, my legs would not respond. ughh...the entire race felt like once long stride. Seriously though, I was stuck in one gear the entire time. I need to figure out how to use my 800 speed in the 1500. I know I have that extra gear, but getting to it is rather difficult.

Some of you won't believe this, but I hit a 50.7 on our 4x4. Now if I can use this speed in the 8/15, then mucho bueno.

Eddy,
based on your practice results and race information, I think you have a 1:54high and 3:57.xx in you somewhere before this season is out. I just don't know if the training and doubling might be keeping you from hitting them...but they are there in my opinion.

You are definately a 3:50 guy or faster. I went 3:53 the year after college and I don't think I ever ran faster than a 55sec 400m......

I agree and said as much before.
Now you hit the big target, you owe it to yourself to try "taking it easy" for the last couple of weeks of the season. What do you have to lose?

I'll be racing the 1500 and maybe the 800 this coming Friday. Gonna try and keep from getting my butt kicked by the young bucks.
Eddy, I've been following this thread for a long time...your aerobic is obviously still extremely under-developed. Its about getting your aerobic up to par so you can use that speed.
We'll call it a 51 sec. quarter, the four second rule would say you could potentially (with a fully developed aerobic system) average 55 for the 800 and 59 for the 1500. To do this you'll need to be close to 14:10 for 5k.

Yes, but if Eddy's season does end on 1st May (according to the schedule posted a few weeks back), it's a bit late for anything but tapering this season ;-)
Eddy, I recall you didn't have a lot of influence over your schedules. That all changes this summer. With a long-term view, the right training, and 51sec leg speed, you can drop ten more seconds easily next year.
