Gotta go ‘83 NYC with Dixon airborne & Geoff Smith on the ground.
A marathon pic as opposed to middle distance.

That is an awesome photo! What race was that and who are the guys in the pic?
Daley Thompson, 1982 European Championships decathlon 1500.

End of the 1500m, the last event in the '84 Olympic decathlon in LA. Daley Thompson of the UK, truly the last man standing - in every sense.

Regardless of anything that happened after, arguably the greatest moment in Canadian sports history, and unbelievable photo...

So much late 2000s in this.
This thread reminds me of the "Cool Pics' thread back in the day on the old Dyestat message boards.

Not LA '84; this photo is from Athens European Athletics Championships 1982.
This running photo from Helsinki 1952 is also quite iconic.
Some great ones here,

OK not during the act of running, but it's a running pic and not just an iconic running pic...but without doubt one of the most iconic photos of all time.
So well known far beyond the sport....forever...

Not sure if anyone put these, but It's interesting we don't really consider these iconic, as they're so recent.

I love Kipchoge but wish he had never done that.
Yes, it was a marketing gimmick.
But everyone will remember the first man to break 2:00:00 in the marathon.
And everyone here will remember where they were when they watched it.
The winner for that generation for sure..
Many youngsters have never seen that and probably don't know how impactful it was.
btw, FM posted that photo a day or two ago. See page 2
