Just like I was telling the delusional people on the 13:01 thread, you have to run negative splits for 2 mile to run your best time. There is nothing wrong with going for it though as that tells exactly where you are at fitness wise. As you were giving the splits and they were right on 60 a 400, I knew that would cost Rupp a couple seconds in the end. It is a great achievement regardless. If he could run this race again in 2 weeks, he could go 4:04 and close in 4:01 or 4:02. Just my opinion.

Komen ran the most effortless 59-60 sec quarters ever. No strain, and completely under control.

I was impressed Rupp had pacing for so long, but it looks Birgen is a 3:30/7:36 guy.

Totally missed that he ran 3:30 @ Monaco

They usually have those up at some point. Maybe not immediately.

I wasn't pleased at though, as I couldn't watch in anything other than 240p without having stream freeze every 5s. If this was free hey whatever, but when I'm already being dumb and coughing up $20 it sucks to have to watch a Rupp made of 10 pixels go around in circles.

Pacers were money. Clicked off 30s laps for days, and got him all the way to 2400

So now they get decent pacers... in the 5000 they had 2 guys with 8:11 3k PRs supposed to "pace" it in 7:56.

(And one second can be HUGE when trying to break records)

So they ran the first mile aggressively here, the last mile aggressively in the 5000... seems to be strategic angle. Look for perfect splits when he takes on the mile.

based on some other posts it looks like he was ~63 for last 400m, maybe 62.mid, you have to remember that it's a full 2mile so the splits were at the starting point, but he had to run another 18 meters after he hit 3200m.

Why do you feel sorry for him? There's no evidence that negative splits are better than positive or even splits.
