Athlete could be Seb Fernandez on farm team to BYU, and Salt Lake lost all funding, and had a bit of athletes being pissed off about it, then Wood got hired at Pacific right after, and took several former athletes with him. Mentioning multiple schools also implies transferring/JUCO.
And anonymous on top of that. Ppl pick on you and Dahl and anyone who reveals their reveal name.
To the guy slandering Vin Lannana, unless you knew him in the coaching social circles or real life, why would you be putting this crap on here about him?
No one is slandering Vin Lananna ! There was one post and it just gave a description his career.
Bill Taylor. Former Lipscomb coach. Just read how long his bio is and how it’s all about him. The great irony is how much better Lipscomb became once he left.
What’s really pathetic is that this thread exists almost entirely to talk sh@t about coaches. Not to discuss training, results, or ideas, just to tear people down behind a keyboard. Then the same posters cry foul when their garbage gets deleted, as if anonymous trash talk deserves protection. It’s not accountability, it’s cowardice. If the only contribution you have to the sport is attacking coaches instead of actually building athletes, don’t be shocked when no one feels obligated to keep your posts around. The Brojos should be ashamed to allow this thread to stay up!
Vin Lananna has mastered one thing in this sport, selling himself with lies. Same script, different school. He was fired from Stanford and Oregon for his disgraceful tactics. Now UVA. Different logos, same storyline. At some point, “give me a few years” turns into a punchline. The podium talk never materializes, championships come and go, and the post-meet excuses pile up. Meanwhile, the sport evolves and he’s still running the same old playbook like it’s a decade ago. If you’re still selling the future in your 70s, it’s fair to ask whether the future ever actually arrive. I agree Vin Lananna is a legend in lying to almost everyone including the USATF!
Says the guy posting under a VPN. If you are going to trash a legend, at least do it under your own VPN so I can get an idea of who you are. Hell email me.
I’m honestly a bit astonished that this thread is still up. A bunch of people that have watched a couple interviews and workout wednesdays of a coach deciding to throw them a diagnosis
there are coaches who have put out enough info that it's almost as easy to make the "diagnosis" as it is for Donald Trump. Writing books. Long form interviews on podcasts. And then there are the people here who are actually insiders.
But there are alot of people unfairly named here.
And Rojo talking about people hiding behind VPNs when he could just require registration. wow.
While I do agree that there are coaches here that do portray traits of narcissism, and some of the claims being made do look to hold some legitimacy, it just feels kind of bad taste to me.
Im also seeing a lot of speculation about coaches that I don’t think is fair or appropriate to be had on a public forum. To be fair, not from some legal perspective but from my personal view on ethics. I’m a bit late to the thread so I’m seeing a lot of deleted posts, but from what I’m piecing together and anyone correct me if I’m wrong, some coaches are being allowed to be accused of narcissism and others aren’t.
Narcissism is also a very complex and often misunderstood (I think most people in this thread are framing narcissism through the pop psychology lens that lacks nuance and depth and is just used to paint people we don’t like in a bad light) disorder, and in my opinion it’s really not cool to be throwing such accusations at people because of the stigma around the disorder and the total lack of qualification for probably everybody in this thread to do so.
To me this thread getting the traction that it is, and being allowed to stay up isn’t necessarily a complete outrage to me, it’s just a pretty big reflection of the state of the forum.
When I first started on Letsrun, there were definitely some poor taste threads but they usually got deleted and/or rightfully called out, but the majority of the forum seemed to be training talk and positive speculation about athlete/team performances. Now the majority of the threads/posts are toxic, many don’t even have anything to do with running, mods/site owners often play into the toxicity as exhibited in this thread and many others, and I personally believe that the reason is because rage-baity threads like this generate a lot of traction which means more ad revenue.
The problem is that I think constant threads like these invite more troll type posters and make good faith posters who just love talking about all things running to walk away from the site. A lot of the posters I have really enjoyed interacting with don’t post anymore, or only post rarely and I think it has a lot to do with this. I’ve definitely been considering finding a different more positive forum to talk about running in, because I don’t like being exposed to the constant negativity on this site.
I used to be one of those people who would defend Letsrun when people would call it a toxic cesspool but it’s getting to the point that it’s pretty indefensible.
I was having a conversation with someone on a run about coaches who are the most narcissistic. It started about coaches in the area but then they made me think.. who are the most narcissistic high profile track coaches? Could be HS or college. I’m interested in the stories and backgrounds.
The BYU coach strikes me as such - but still Ana amazing coach.
Testing to see if the name Sean Carlson is allowed to stay, unremoved. He belongs in any similar discussion, but all the removed posts make me curious if any negative mention of him is allowed to happen here or not.
Based on personal experience, he is motivated only by his own success, and pretty much anything and anyone is expendable to reach that.
They dont want any mention of him whatsoever.
Yet slandering an elder Vin Lannana is allowed.
They are also allow someone to go in and retype and make edits of ppl's posts to make them say things they didnt say.
Very funky website. None of you even know what the Medical definition of a narcissist even is. You're just yacking crap about a coach who you personally hate.
I would also echo Lannana. Also a great coach, but he would be the first to tell you that 🤣
The BYU coach strikes me as such - but still Ana amazing coach.
The male or the female? Coach Taylor have have a tad bit of psychological vanity going on, but neither her or Ed Eye meet the DSM-IV+ textbook criteria for npd.
