Flotrack's Athlete's Lounge coverage of today's meet crushed. Immediate post-race interviews with Nuguse, Yavi, Patterson and great commentary from Centro and (briefly) Fisher.
is fisher running next week?
Only if he gets a global wild card, which is certainly possible.
Sinclaire Johnson's fall eliminated her from the DL final. She had a good shot of making it but 0 points today ends her chances. Hiltz qualified.
Really tough break for Sinclaire - she hasn’t been the most consistent since turning pro, but after that AR in the mile last month she could’ve potentially been a dark horse medal threat at Worlds if everything went her way.
No, not a chance. She's a good athlete, but the medals are going to women with 3:53 potential at least, and that just isn't Johnson. She'd need several top contenders to fall over to get among the medals
What I learned from P Koech is he doesn’t have that close like a Hocker/Laros/strand/jkoech in a more tactical race. There is a reason he only finished 4th in u20 800m last year.
Yes, lost in the Koech obsession was that he seemed maxed out at high-12s/low-13s finishes albeit in fast races. Kerr had somewhat of an off race in London with a weak finish. he couldn't outkick Habz and his splits in Ostrava were solid but unspectacular. I think there's a reason AK pre-selected him as I suspect he wouldn't have made top 3 in a 3:48 race. He's a medal contender, but will be in trouble if plays out like today or at USAs. A 3:28-9 race would benefit him hugely.
Maybe. I still wonder if he can break into the medals against a sharpened field. Laros already has his number and both Kerr and Hocker will be peaked for Tokyo and we know both can change gears in a 3:28 race. Koech has had his fun on the circuit, it will probably come to an end in Tokyo

You can't rule him out either way. He's fit and tactically pretty good. He doesn't seem to have a crazy extra gear, but honestly I think of the top, top guys that's really down to Hocker/Laros who both can run run 3:27-28 and put a 12.7 finish to close it out. Kerr is the best racer to me undoubtedly and tactically he can maybe pull it off even if they have .2-3 better than him in a finish.
We've seen the crazy kicks from Tim, Reynold, Jonah Koech, and Strand from the next group. But we've also seen that Koech is heavily banged up, Strand is a bit green tactically, Reynold continually gets shuffled back to 3rd-place at best positions, and Tim is a little tentative in the middle of these races. Can't really count on any of them.
Isn't it funny how the 1500 went from ruined to exciting because a white guy won today?
More like the other way around for the wokesters. Especially because the (actual) youngest guy in the race beat a 23 year teenager coached by Captain EPO himself, Berardelli.
Someone explain the resistance to a 2 month subscription to flo track for DL meets? I watched 3 field events concurrently with just stadium sound which is much more preferred than their doofus announcer that came in later covering womens pole vault. Once switched to world feed, it appears as good as peacock albeit the cost is a little higher. I have no intentions of continuing the subscription beyond the DL season.
For me, the issue is that flotrack is monopolistic and has made track and field less accessible than it has ever been, and less accessible than just about any other sport. So we do everything possible to hasten their demise. If that means that we have to wait an hour to watch replays on YouTube, it is a small price to pay. I could easily pay the $20, but I choose not to for that reason. I am also apt to forget to cancel subscriptions.
When they first launched coving small meets and did workout Wednesday, I was a fan. Then they bought the rights to meets that used to be free, and then made it worse with terrible announcers. And they charged too much, and didn't offer pay per view. I like an extortion racket. Since then I basically refuse to give them money. You burn good will, it hurts you long term.
The future is now -- Laros has to be the favourite for Tokyo. Incredible finish - he looked so strong.
Laros is not the favorite for Tokyo. Hocker, Koech even Kerr are all ahead of him.
Let Laros kick in a 3:27 race after rounds and then I'll change my mind.
Not knocking Laros but people are getting ahead of themselves.
I would agree with you if he did not run 3:45 for the win at Pre. Maybe I did get ahead of myself, I think if Hocker shows the same form as his peak then he is the favourite. And which Koech are you referring to -- Phaneul? In any case both Koechs will be tough to beat and I think Kerr is also in the conversation. We are in the golden age for the 1500 and i'm looking forward to Worlds.
Why are posters who insist that everyone in doping without any proof or sound evidence not banned on sites like LR? Other sites don't put up with maga-like conspiracy theorists poisoning the environment. Isn't it time LR does the same?
Several thoughts. I think that Nuguse was playing some with tactics today; if so I don't read too much into not winning.
SCR's time was not great but she beats some good runners, and not that many have been running that well. As for times, MJW has been knocking out in the 10.6s, so maybe adjust down some as sprinters don't love 15C, 59F. I think she makes the Final as her finish is still very good but the podium even with question marks about Alfred seems too much of a stretch.
To me, it looked like Abel Kipsang intentionally rolled into the grass after falling to make sure he didn't take anyone else out. Pretty damn heroic if so!

What good runners did she beat? Except for SAF who is now showing her age, none of the others in the field have a PB faster than 10.9. It was by and large a mediocre field. And she still did not crack 11:00. She won't make it out of the semis running 11.00.
The women's pole vault was very good, with two clean through 4.80 with a 4.87 winner.
The TJ was good, with Moore finally looking better. I love the esthetics of the event and loved doing it even though I was a so-so distance runner.
Chase Jackson was facing not getting a fourth throw and hits a MR 20.90, two inches off her world lead.
The solo 44.05 400 was impressive. Norwood for more relay medals.
Men's Discus and Jav were good.
This was a Track AND Field meet.
Norwood is consistent.
Patterson is definitely the one to beat in the 400M. Dobson is the darkhorse. He runs strangely to me. I don't understand how he's able to hold his form and speed in the last 100M while others are dying.

Kinda amazingly I think you’re right. Whether it was dumb luck or instinct, that was the most sportsmanlike fall I can ever remember.
