Looks like he’s definitely still training hard, so it seems like he’s probably just not fit enough yet to race. Perhaps we’ll see him in Zurich for the DL finals?
I cannot imagine a runner, even one as gifted as Ingebrigsten, missing all this time and still being able to compete for a world title. I hope I'm wrong and he is at full strength but I do not see this as likely. Probably not even possible.
I bet he’s running some lowkey continental tour event. I mean do you really want to be put in a race with 3:27 guys in your first race in 5+ months? Starting lowkey and winning a race is better than getting destroyed in a diamond league race.

Agreed. That said, it’s very much unlike him to back down from a challenge. I imagine he’ll want a chance to butt heads with the current top dogs before Worlds.

Fair point but that didn’t stop him from running Pre last year. I bet he shows up.

He basically had like 4-5 months of full training at that point I think. I believe he starting running February last year which is why he was pretty fit for Pre.

Also, had he done any significant racing before setting the world indoor mile record this past winter?
I’m always amazed at how close to their outdoor peaks these guys get in Dec-Feb indoor meets seemingly out of nowhere. Makes me wonder whether the outdoor season is too long/whether it’s really necessary to participate in all of it

Considering your username I wonder if you really want to be wrong.
But if Jakob can train without setbacks until Tokyo I think you will be wrong. To win the 5000m he only needs a bit of sharpening AND his high aerobic capacity which hasn´t disappeared just because he has been doing alternative AEROBIC training for some months.
The 1500m is another story since it demands some race sharpening but at least the rounds could could work as sharpeners for the 5000m.
I won´t rule out that Jakob could win the 1500m but there are undoubtly many contenders this year and nobody is a favorite against the field.
But perhaps he would abstain from front running the 1500m from start to finish which in my opinion will increase his winning chances

If Jakob comes back healthy NOBODY is destroying him even after he hasn´t been racing the 1500m for a while.
How did he do in his rustbuster in February this year where he ran his first 1500m/ mile since September 2024?

Are you an accountant?
Try to add 4-5 months to February. The Bowerman Mile last year was in the end May.
So he had less than 4 months of normal training before his first race where he ran a mile time equal to high 3:28 in the 1500m.
His "RUSTBUSTER" mile this year equals a low 3:28 in the 1500m.

I’m a Jakob fan for sure and want to be optimistic, but that article literally says it’s still bothering him. Just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best, I suppose.

Chill dawg….i thought it was in June. Should’ve just looked it up but the point is he was in a much better position then than he is now. And in his 3:45 indoor mile opener, he had been training since late September so no surprise he was ready to “rip” that one.
He started getting back to his full training July 14th via instagram. It hasn’t even been a full month! I’m not saying he can’t run sub 3:30 but I’m not sure if he’s ready to win a diamond league off of one month of specific training.
