This is a bit silly. My gosh slapping you kid with a towel? Did he break skin? I mean taking someone to court for this is embarrassing. I'll slap my kid with a towel right now and they'd laugh.
If you slapped anyone in the face with a towel you would have committed an assault in law. So what excuses that if the victim is your child? Assaulting a child is fine - especially your own? If you add to that that it caused physical injury, as shown by the photograph of the welt it produced which was offered in evidence, it is similarly likely there would be a conviction. The only reason Gjert escaped conviction for what he allegedly did to Jakob is that Jakob was unable to produce corroborative evidence of the kind his sister did. It was only his word against Gjert, which didn't satisfy the burden of proof. But for two young adults to bring such charges against their father adds to the probable veracity of their claims and suggests it was indicative of a history of abuse by him of which they had simply had enough.
None of that matters here. A majority of posters on this thread indicate their sympathies lie with one who is convicted of an act of abuse of their child because that, too, is in their own nature.

Okay so it may be assault BUT what if I do it to the most defenseless people in the world who have to live with me day in and day out?
Why would Jacob want all this negative publicity. There is nothing to be gained by lying. Its not like he needs the money. He was found guilty with the daughter because there was photographic evidence. With Jacob there was no evidence but it would be unusual if there was after all this time.

I don’t need to apologize. Gjert was cleared of all serious charges. Jakob, you, and others here need to apologize for unproven libel.

You do not seem to have a proper grasp of the english langugage. Being an apologetist does not mean that one apologises. It means that one comes up with elaborate excuses to explain some unacceptable behaviour or event, i.e. exactly what you are doing.
Psychological abuse and total control (not being able to do anything one wants, you said "anything", not me) is not acceptable. To bad the evidence did not amount to convicting the perpetrator.

You bolded the part where Ingrid testified that Gjert expressed remorse for the incident. Does that sound like an abusive monster?
By Ingrid’s own admission, Gjert felt bad about the incident. So then why did the brothers publish a hit piece on him nearly two years later? Why are you people ganging up on him about it now? This is the ultimate example of making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Can you make an argument without being verbally abusive? Explain why there were no public issues for the rest of 2022 after Ingrid moved out of the house in January. What do you think changed in 2023?

Why is it that all the anti-Gjert people here are the only ones attacking other people’s character in this discussion? It’s hypocritical for the people who are so judgmental about the towel incident to be so verbally abusive. Maybe you should look in the mirror before casting aspersions on others.

Take a moment to think about what you’re alleging. Think about the size of that family. For each kid, think about their friends coming over to the house to hang out. Then think about extended family, neighbors, and friends of Gjert and Tone visiting often.
How could Gjert have possibly been a “sick covert operator” in a family that large where lots of people were coming in and out of the house all the time? It’s impossible. It would have been rare for him to be alone with just one of the kids.
