They should DQ the NC State runner (touhy?) for taking that many steps in the inside. And then let him back into finals. Let the BC kid who came second into the final as the winner after DQ. And then let the Clemson guy who was winning into the final too. So a final of 10.
That is probably the "right" thing to do but it would seem to give the short end of the stick to the 3 runners who ran faster than that BC runner who did not run fast enough to win his heat and get the Q.....going to be a tough call and someone is going to be unhappy.
looks like they gave Tuohy the Q, and the BC and Clemson runners qRs
As much as I like Norm Ogilvie announcing the ACC, he obviously doesn't watch viral videos from high school running, namely Milesplit. He didn't recognize Aden Bandukwala (viral video two years ago) in the M 800m, and kept saying, "the Duke athlete," and said his last name like: Bandu. A koala.
Maybe he's not trying to show favoritism to Duke athletes since he coached there for 20 years. IDK. edit: although I know it's hard to keep track of everyone! It's a big conference that got even bigger this year.

Right thing to do. Tuohy was obstructed but took like 5 steps inside the track in the turn. BC guy would have won if he was DQed for that. Not Tuohy’s fault he had to cut in but he did and took a few meters off. And then Clemson guy was obstructed by the photographer.

Norm’s a bit of an idiot and always has been. Decent guy but not the brightest bulb. Didn’t do much with some decent talent at Duke and even when he was there he’d mess up people’s names on the team consistently.

It was painful listening to his commentary for the ACC XC meet.

Any relation to Matthew Ogilvie, freshman at Jesuit HS in CA who ran 4:15/9:15?
It always amazes me when some random person viewing a race from a not ideal TV angle imagines that they know who won a photo finish better than the officials who are actually looking at the photo finish photo.
of course the person with the photo is going to know better. wasn’t officiating. was just having a drink, enjoying watching the race, as a former tar heel distance runner it was fun to post. i was thrilled to see wolfe racing again. felt pretty sure he had it. still checking the results in case they realize the mistake and have corrected it. LOL. have some fun once in a while.
I'm attending the meet and was sitting along the finish line with many Tar Heel fans including Wolfe's father, who was smack to my left. None of us thought Wolfe won it. In fact, there was very little anticipation of the official result. It looked clear cut as a very tight near miss.
That was easily the biggest disappointment of day two. I was really looking forward to the matchup with Hartmann, although Appleton might stay close enough to have a chance late.
The women's 800 final now looks like the best battle. Roisin didn't seem particularly sharp in today's heat and the holdover ACC types aren't giving her much respect.

Rewatching I don't understand why the BC runner was advanced as he was. He did not win the heat, did not seem to be affected by the collision, Tuohy was not DQ'd (and was given the Q) and there were several non heat winners with a faster time than the BC runner. If anything the BC guy should have got the Q and Tuohy the qR, no?
Gapes of NC State, fresh off that 4:28 DMR leg, needs faster than 8:50.32 in the 3000 to qualify - or possibly a little faster if Chisholm or Dudek or someone else runs that time as well. Does NC State have Rauber or Napolean make sure the pace is fast enough so that Hartman can just worry about racing vs Kennedy?

Novak of ND, fresh off her 4:27 is in the same position as Gapes.....between those 2 teams, someone needs to get this going at 8:50 pace.

Touhy took 7 strides, maybe 8 inside the rail, and surely cut off distance. Not his fault though. Interesting ruling .
Yeah I don’t know how it works. I probably would have qRed Tuohy. If he got a world record or something there’s no way it would have counted given the steps inside (but realize he had to do something like that to avoid conflict). Whole thing was a mess and I’m not sure how nuanced the rule book actually is in a situation like this but the outcome seems fair
Interesting that Notre Dame's Women are leading the ACC's after two days. 32 of the points are from the multi's & high jump. Rodney Zuyderwyk may be the most underrated coach in collegiate Track & Field. Yes it tends to be a distance oriented program, all points matter at conference time.
Hartman took it out teal fast and could not quite hold on. Appleton 4:26.2 I believe
i'm guessing she was concerned with Appleton and Kosgei's kick. they both ran the last lap of the prelims in 30.2-30.3.
Wonder if she will just pace Gapes, Rauber, Napoleon in the 3000 later today.
That could be...She and Appleton will have a tough time coming back from the mile I think. I just saw Brynn Brown apparently was the victim of a false start (and there was a false start). Watching, I did not see that she had been removed, but that is what the results show.
