It is a real problem with the sport that you have a national championship in a major American city and key players in the sport are off running selfish time trials (that could be run at other times) in an empty arena elsewhere. It'd be like if Bryson Dechambeau entered a long drive contest in lieu of participating in a major.
Jacobs looking back multiple times in the last 50 was embarrassing form. MIGHT have cost him.
I've seen Hobbs in so many big races, I wanted to write this off as Dylan's inexperience on the pro scene. It's easy to forget Hobbs is only 21 to Dylan's 24.
Everyone on these boards is really sensitive about Tuohy so not trying to get anyone riled up, but it’s pretty obvious that she has not been herself for several years now.
Definitely since the NCAA 1500m but I would argue it is closer to after the indoor 5000m. Not horrible form by any means but just doesn’t look the same. We don’t have enough insight to know if it is injuries, illness, or just not responding to training.

I had actually completely forgotten that Jacobs had just run 7:30.45 up the track at Millrose..LOL. That looking back made him look like a piker..and it's too bad, because he is running to win all out there as well.
How about this third heat of the men's 400: Quincy Wilson vs. Will Sumner vs. Matthew Boling. Three legs of the Let's Run oft-discussed long sprinter 4x400.
Heckuva lineup. Sumner over Boling over Wilson today I think
This is priceless! trolls may be speechless and confused. Just need a mixed relay now with Shelby, Nicki, Touhy and Wiley. Maybe add Hoey and Flatt to the pool.
I'd love to see analysis of how many meters Tuohy ran vs the other girls. She was noticeably floating on the outside most of the race. But she was near the front, and I was watching her. Others in front of her could have been doing the same thing, and I wouldn't have noticed. Hiltz and Houlihan both stayed glued to the rail for the most part.
If deanouk were a Tuohy fan, he'd be here to calculate her as having run the fastest of the entire field, only going too many extra meters.
What is up with Kenneth Rooks. He's probably not on tv . But dropped well before 2k. And he ran 13:30 for 5k a few weeks ago. How in the world did that guy get Olympic silver? Still arguably the greatest race I've ever seen in person by an American.
Yet another example highlighting that steeple is a niche discipline for guys that can’t hang. Getting absolutely rolled by close to 20s in 3k is insane.
Morgan trusted her kick a bit too much. She had plenty left but Shelby is good enough to hold her off though vintage Shelby wins that race tbh.
This is vintage Shelby.
Per JG's chart on LRC's homepage, this is the fastest indoor USA championship 3000 Houlihan has ever run, including final 400, final 200 and final overall time.
Past years she wins easily -- save for 2019 coming off injury when Quigley beat her. No longer. Top US women have leveled up to Shelby, both In endurance and closing speed. No more can Shelby be picked as the pre-race favorite just because she can close in under 60 for the final 400. Now others can as well.
Not dumping on Shelby at all. It's wonderful seeing her back racing so well, in time-trial as well as competitive non-rabbited races. Just that US women's middle distance racing has changed over the last 4 years -- for the better.
Plot thickens even more tomorrow in the 1500 when Shelby goes up against true world-class milers MacLean and Johnson along with Hiltz. How does she respond to racing again in 24 hours? Does she still have in her a miler's kick vs distance kick?
Happy to have this race on Peacock, one day before my month's subscription expires.

The way USATF treats the athletes as well as fans all over the country....Im actually impressed with who actually shows up for indoor & XC championship meets. Their crappy streaming services are just an example of the lack of effort and vision they have. I gave up on their streaming years ago. The outdoor championship meet is marginally better in off years that dont select national teams.
Im totally ok with our best athletes having a lot of opportunities besides USATF championship meets to prepare for their most important races as they choose. It's really obvious the athletes themselves place little value, importance and confidence in USATF. I hope for MAJOR leadership change or a total collapse and Phoenix rebirth of the organization. USATF is such a leech on the backs of our best athletes and have such a loser attitude about lifting them up to comparable levels of other pro sports. After Paris results, dont expect anything different. They are a scourge to the sport in America. Im really happy that our pros are finding lots of opportunities.
USATF IS THE WEAKEST LINK IN THE SPORT FOR AMERICA. I cant blame Michael Johnson for trying something different. Glad USATF doesnt have the balls to try to shut him down. They'll try to figure out how to leech off any success they can through them as well.
