2025 MIAC Track & Field Thread

The Cobbers are heating up to score some distance points! The Future drops a 30 second last lap to run an 8 second PR in the 3000m. Simple math tells us that kind of improvement means he'll be the running sub 9 steeples early Outdoor. That follows his massive 4:14 mile last week. He just keeps getting better.

Not to be outdone, twin brother Tyler runs a 29 second PR in the same race.

Freshman Brayden Carlson cuts two seconds in the the MIAC's 7th best 600m. Can't wait until he takes his sub 50 speed into the 800.

I smell a surprisingly good DMR. They almost beat the Oles at Wartburg last year setting a school record.

The trio double back tomorrow and the man that can run everything from the 800m to the steeple, G-squared, will look to beat his 1:56 800m PR.

Enough of this Cobber slobber

On this day, February 8th 2025, I would like to announce my return to the indoor oval. I was simply amazed by the runs from my brothers Boone and DEWALL and cannot let their talents falter without a serious attempt at DMR gold in Rochester.

Although I have not trained since MIAC outdoor last spring, I have no doubt in my mind I am capable of incredible things in an 800 leg of a relay. As my faithful coach Jeff Cottrell always said, “I have an amazing ability to go ‘freak mode’ during a race and run far beyond my capabilities.”

With this in mind, I should be running 1:49-1:52 in the coming weeks. My training will be fueled by Hamm’s and buffalo wings and I will once again ascend to greatness.

Although my brief retirement was nice, I miss the intensity of rounding the tight turns while fighting like hell for my teammates. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Please wish me luck and support me in my journey back to glory.

The exciting 3K pacing promised by Power never happened with his “pacers” running a blazing 4:26 first mile from which none of the Oles recovered. His mile seeding also proved to be garbage. Means while the Future crushed a double running 4:12 and Gabe soloed 8:16. No pacing needed for our hero. Mac ran some good miles and 800’s too.

Looks like all the praise for Power working with Nick was unfounded. More of the same. He’s king of the sell and the over promise.

How about those St. Scholastica milers? Bati may not get the MIAC record, but Calvin has a legit chance to do that. Can’t wait to watch him take on Gabe! And Nicky B. resurfaced today. Looks like he may not be in sub 4:10 shape for Indoor, but I fully expect him under 3:48 Outdoor.

I’m just so impressed with Goss. A guy that was barely all-conference ij cross country is now top 20 in the counter in the mile. He ranks ahead of so many national qualifiers and All-Americans in two events in the MIAC and is close to completely erasing MIAC legend Munir from the Cobber record books. He’s already dropped six seconds from his mile since high school and I can see room for another four this year. By the time he’s done steepling people will be talking about him in the same breath as Wilkinson and Gathje.

Definitely a turd move by Power to both overseed most of his entries and then have his pacers not hit their pace after agreeing to help Mo out. I’m not sure they even ran the correct pace for the first lap. Every time I want to give the guy the benefit of the doubt he does something like this.

Anyone else notice that all of Maxwell’s seeds were accurate if not faster? Just saying.

He instructed his athletes to not pace Mo. I saw him talk with Nick and you could tell he wasn’t happy about it. That will be a lesson to any other coaches who expect Power to help in races. He’s only going to take care of the Oles.

Mo and others will just have to run fast the old fashioned way, let the Oles go out too hard and pass them as they fall off.

Let me get this straight, the Oles are to blame for Mo running his first K at 8:07 pace? Only a few of their top guys can even do that pace for a mile.

It looks like Turlington didn’t run, so it’s logical to think the milers helped to pace their teammates and got a workout in. If their was agreement for the Oles to pace Turlington that fast, I’d think Power would have seeded him faster than 8:17.

We all know that Mo likes to sit back and then move late, but nobody in that field was going to help him do that. It’s on Augsburg to find him better races or better pacers.

And while we’re throwing out accolades, let’s not forget the Cobber was a 4:18 miler in high school. Maybe not as prolific of a recruit as Gabe, Roy, or Ihrke, but it’s not like he’s made improvements like Calvin (4:28) or Lars (4:27) both taking 20 seconds off their mile. Even more if you can their converted 1500’s.

Last night a proposal was sent out to change the MIAC seeding rules to mimic what Power and a few random schools have been using. Power drafted it, but after having every proposal he submitted voter down at the December meeting didn’t have the guts to send it himself. He instead relied on an Ole graduate, the Concordia-Moorhead coach to do his dirty work.

Im sure the proposal will be voted down, but I really don’t understand why they this think this is good for the sport and what they want to create less competitive heats. What advantage does he think he gains by continuing to pursue this. Every time I get an email with his name I know it’s going to be another issue.

So... I'm not interested in hearing complaints. On another note, there were some major performances over the weekend. We had little Ihrke launching himself into MIAC contention and Gabe delivering an impressive solo 3K. However, the standout race of the weekend was the Minnesota 3K, where both Mohammed Bati and Jonathan Pattie put in solid efforts as they head into the conference taper.

St. John's has confirmed they will not be using these stupid seeding rules in meets they host.

Gabe will be racing the Valentine meet at BU. I'm predicting in the neighborhood of 4:06.

I'll say 4:05 on a banked track. He ran 4:09 at Wartburg two years ago, so that seems accurate.

Interestingly, Campbell's MIAC record was also on a banked track, so in theory Gabe's performance as a freshman was a superior mark. Even more interesting, the MIAC 1500m All-time record is 3:50.10 from 1979. That mark converts to a even better record of 4:06.87.

The Future is making his 5K debut this weekend. Is Munir's 14:31 school record in danger?

When will we see a Lars 5K? He has to be in 14:15 shape given his big fall of mileage and newfound mile speed.

Despite doing a workout during his races today Mo remains undefeated against MIAC competitors since May of 2025.
