I'm actually somewhat excited for Michael Johnson's league because it incentivizes racing with the points system, not times. The commentator just said "you can forget about the world record, it's a race now"...that's the thing, in pursuit of world records, the Diamond League doesn't produce distance races, they're just time trials. They come close to world records maybe 10% of the time, and they set world records probably 1% of the time (maybe a bit higher in current super shoe years). I don't blame the citizens of Rome for not caring much about distance time trials.
DL has a points system to make the finals. Focus generally not on records.
First question after first race in Johnson league. Was it a record?
Tebogo has it. He's the man, natural charisma. Looking across and shouting from 20m out and celebrating with 10m to go. We're going to be building the sport on his shoulders from next year
WTF is Tobogo doing easing off in the last 15m. He would have ran a PB if he didn't do that. You never know when you are going to get hurt in sprinting and then never run a PB again that is idiotic.

People that run the 100m aren't exactly the brightest group out there.

What he did just now is much more memorable than having run about 3 100ths faster (he didn't waste any more time than that, people underestimate momentum/don't know how sprinting works)
Hagos reveals he got Covid in Paris, I think he could have raced better tactically in the final but being sick surely wouldn't have helped him
Post-race quote: "This was a very nice race and the track is fast, so I am really happy. Our tactics is that we Ethiopians work together, we have many good Ethiopian 5k runners and if one of us gets tired, another can help out with the peace. I knew "I am not alone". I trained a lot for my last 300-400 meters, for the final kick and this helped me tonight. I will race in Brussels. In Paris I was unlucky because after the qualification I got corona so it was very difficult for me. I am very happy about this victory."

In general you’re right, but Tebogo has great SE, and he was moving, and he really shut down early. I do think he could have snuck under 9.8 in this one, his execution was brilliant. He had it won at 50 and he knew it!
LMAO Coleman, no chance! Like Tebogo, I would have had a good time with it. He’s running free!

As he should. The 100 field today is on their way out the back door of their careers so he had nothing to worry about.
Aside from Crousers series, it was an average meet at best in a stadium that was way to big for the event. Face it people, without Ingebritsen and Duplantis as well as all the other athletes choosing to end their seasons, that was a just ok kinda meet. I understand that meets rotate events so no mens pole vault or 800. All the hype about records create big letdowns in meets like this. Zurich and Brussels should be better but dont be surprised if they too are a bit of a letdown performance wise.
I so dislike him. I had to mute him when he was going on and on and on and on about Tamberi. How many times is he going to talk about Tamberi and some wedding ring...
IMagine if these guys ran a 3000 or 5000 in Stanford or Sound Running type weather. Johnn Kellogg said Jakob would run 7:14 and I think we could see a sub-12:30. High 70s/low 80s is too hot.
I know when Cheptegei did it it was 79 degrees and dewpoint of 69. Tonight is 81 and 68.
The race is at 10pm at night. The Sun has no effect in the dark.
The world's best track and field athletes, including nine Olympic champions, will head to the Italian capital for the 13th round of the 2024 Diamond League on 30 August.
