Those Boise time are dumb though. Rose City is so unrealistic.
The average of the next best times this season for their top 7 is 42 seconds slower. That's almost 5 minutes on team time.
Agreed. CDA is the best Idaho team, and Rocky beat Boise the last time they raced
Jesuit’s top 5 at the district meet are all juniors
Dyestat Rankings out.
I think that they were a little too reactionary for what has happened the since the last time they came out.
Boys:
Crater 10, CDA 13, Jesuit 15, Sehome 28
I think that they thought something like this: Crater did not do well down in Cali, and since Crater beat CDA at Woodbridge, they must both be overrated. Jesuit wasn't too far off CDA at Hole in the Wall however, so they will get ranked close. Not sure where that Sehome ranking came from, they were literally 3 points off Jesuit at HITW which is not worth 13 spots in the National standings.
I think a more realistic would be having Crater/CDA both around 8-12, Jesuit/Sehome 15-20, Mercer Island/Rocky Mountain 25-30 or just outside the rankings.
Girls:
Rocky Mountain 17
SUPER reactionary on this one, even more than the boys. Boise was ranked 22nd last time from their 2nd at Firman, and admittedly Rocky was deserving to be ranked with their 3rd at Firman.
But then because Rocky beat Boise at districts they un-rank Boise and launch Rocky into the middle of the standings and un-rank Lincoln for losing to Boise at Rose City then un-rank Jesuit for losing to Timberline (Idaho #3 or 4).
It's a big mess right now. I honestly think that it should look something like Rocky ~20, Boise ~25, Timberline/Capital/Lincoln ~30th or just barely unranked.
Mercer Island with four juniors in the top 21. They will be strong again next year.

Keep in mind that Crater’s times are all from Crater Twilight (track 5000m) and would be a ways off the hilly, technical Boise course. But still in contention nonetheless if they have Tostenson

Recupero tops Powell at districts
Given that Recupero ran 14:48 on the same course a week ago, I'd be surprised if either he or Powell were going all out here.
It looked to me that Powell let Recupero go from the start and did a tempo instead. Has bigger fish to fry later.

Powell is likely focusing on a national title

Probably correct. If Powell had been going for the win I expect he would have been closer to Recupero even if Recupero was having a better race on the day.
Anyone have the final mile splits for those two? Looked like Vince closed in under 4:30. The opening mile looked like it was close to 5:00.
Powell looked smooth closing, but I think Recupero has got the stuff to challenge him for the state W this year.

Recupero threw the kitchen sink at him last year at state... Powell is stronger this year, will be a battle though. Sophia Rodriguez blasted the meet and course record. 16:59 no joke on that course.
Interesting... I heard a lead pack of 6-8 runners went through the first mile in 5:00 to 5:02.
My user name has been proven false.
Rocky girls dominate. Is that t safe to say they are an NXN favorite from the region?
CDA boys win, Rocky very close. A full crater lineup is still the region favorites in my mind, but I want to say CDA is a close second and Rocky once again will be 3rd or 4th
The 6th place Idaho girls team had a faster average than Great Oak and was 3 seconds slower than J Serra was at Firman. The 5th place team averaged 19:32 and was 40 points out of 4th.
Idaho is great on the girls side.
22 boys broke 16 today. 58 total guys broke 16 last year in the Championship race at NXR. 9 of those return next year. 11 more return that have run within 10 seconds between Firman and State. Idaho isn’t overrated. It’s very good and getting deeper each year.

I am sure the faster athletes were able to get out quicker and perform better with only 2-3 good teams in the race. It’s harder to perform as well at NXR or Forman on that course when there are better teams/individuals to work through. Historically you can add about 10-20 seconds to these times to get an idea of what they’d run at NXR. Still formidable!
Maybe a little unrelated, but it’s crazy to see how good seemingly everyone on the Crater team is. It’s awesome to see fast varsity squads but I think it’s even cooler to see teams where their middle-of-the-road runner is good enough to lead a lot of smaller varsity teams, especially when there’s a lot of improvement involved. Demonstrates some really, really good across-the-board coaching rather than just luck thru natural talent.
Crater’s average guys’ time is 17:23
average girls’ time is 21:24
Every single guy except one is sub-20
Garrett Faught went from 5-minute miles as an 8th grader to averaging faster than that over an entire 5k distance. Same story with 6 other freshmen (Colton Hvall, Royce Rackley, Nolan Linthorst, Hernan Garay, Hunter Henney, and McKinna Peterson)
Even though most PRs were set on a track I still find that incredible
Other northwest teams good w this: South Eugene (17:19), Coeur d’Alene (17:31 with 20/26 under 19), Central Catholic (17:31), Lincoln-Portland (18:18 with 44/54 under 20), Preston (18:19), West Salem (18:21), Boise (18:26), Banks (18:36 with 14/16 under 20)
