3rd place for their women.
I think Avery Anderson is a good coach, but doesn’t have administrative support to get the team back to a place of being on top
The problem with UCLA track is that they're not perceived by recruits as a top program. Decent, yes, but not in the top tier. In the sprints, for example, they get good recruits, but all runner up types to the top tier sprinters that USC and SEC schools recruit. In the middle distances and distances the top recruits do not choose UCLA. This perception of UCLA track has been been in place now for many years and it will be very challenging for Anderson or anyone else to reverse it.
Not to beat up on UCLA but the big10 is signaling how they feel about UCLA in their scheduling compared to other newcomers Wash/USC/Ore. UCLA plays only 1 powerhouse team: Penn state. Wash plays 2: Penn state AND Michigan. USC plays 3: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Ore plays 3: Ohio state, Michigan, and Wisc. Already being disrespected by the B10.
