Sorry but a fresh Tuohy beats her worse than at regionals where she beat her after running the 1500 two hours earlier. Idiocy to pretend otherwise. No way she could run 15:30 fresh, right? LOLLLLLL.
It was brutally hot in Austin this weekend (94 degrees at the start of the 1500). Sitting in the stands was very uncomfortable much less trying to double in 2 distance events. It was just too much to take on 2 events in those conditions. In events other than the sprints, There were no successful same day doubles. Even Britton Wilson struggled mightily (2nd and then 7th) with her attempt to double. Ramsden (who won the 1500) struggled in the 5000. The conditions were not right for doubling. And congrats to Valby for a 15:30 5000 in very tough conditions.
Yes but Ramsden at least attempted it, and others doubled from 10k...I don't like the thought that Touhy scratches just because she "felt like she wasn't going to win". I hope that's not the case because that's not a good way to run or race.
Yes I will go with Tuohy would have won another national title if she had only run the 5000m. If you want to try to extrapolate from the 1500m, enjoy. But even assuming that she is worn out, a 15:30 was not going to beat her.
But, she didn’t run. The starting time was 9:55pm; Valby was at the starting line and Tuohy wasn’t.
Yeah but if KT HAD been at the starting line at 9:55 she would have won and won the Bowerman as well.
reminder that last year nur won the double indoors, set the 5k cr outdoors, lost at NCAAs, then made the world team. if she didnt have it today, she didnt have it today. it happens, but at least it makes for a good storyline.
after the 1500, i dont know why anyone thinks she shouldve run the 5k. i like to say when youre on, youre on, but it also works the other way. when youre off, youre off. if you get crushed in the mile as the cr holder, its definitely an off day.

It is not entitlement to recognize simple reality. Unless she was ill she was going to win the 5000m standing alone. Again she won at regionals doubling. Valby cannot outkick her. Basic as that.
Probably was not planned. Medical scratch possibly? Would you want her to run with heat exhaustion or something.
I hope it was a medical scratch...otherwise that's just a poor attitude. Also if it was a medical scratch, then man her coach is an idiot to back this doubling attempt because she's messed up a good athlete.

But people were saying the same thing about the 1500 too, and look what happened there? Who won? Who even made the podium? Lol dude...

The only thing we can say for certain is who actually won that race.....all the hypotheticals are idiotic. And people were saying the same things and making all these grand prophecies about the 1500 and look what happened there? No one guessed that outcome dude. Nothing is guaranteed.
NC State coach Laurie Henes wrote in a text: “She just felt awful after the 1500 and I decided it was not in her best interest to run.
This makes me wonder if it is partly mental/emotional...if so, I think this outcome is going to toughen her up in the long run and might have been a needed experience.
Nobody toughens up from not competing. The only way to toughen up would be to go out there at less than 100 percent and give it her best shot, the same way Valby did at the SEC Championship.
The detail in Astro’s dead-certain breakdown of Tuohy’s victory in a race that didn’t happen is unprecedented. Looking back on the Astro posts on this thread, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more egregious case of woulda-coulda-shoulda-ism. It’s disgraceful. Tuohy DNSing isn’t cool. Another athlete lost a chance to run the 5,000 at Nationals because KT felt real bad after being WORKED in the 1,500. Some of the above was easily foreseeable. Also disgraceful (and foreseeable) are Astro’s doping allegations against Wiley and Kipyegon here. Actually, they’re not even allegations. He puts it out there as it were God’s own truth. Disgraceful.
I don’t hate Tuohy, but I can’t stand her myopic cheering section. So, if it takes abject failure by Tuohy to devastate Astro, Semi, etc., I can live with that. May her bad streak continue. Fat chance at USAs, little buddy.
You don't hate her, but you want her 'bad streak' to continue? Why in the world would you want such a thing? This is one race... people need to seriously get a grip. If you've got a problem with her fans, fine, but I don't know how much more she has to do to demonstrate to some of these ridiculous haters that she is a great person and great teammate. Get a life people.
