Headline should read ‘man wins womens events’, not ‘transgender athlete wins…’ as the male and female categories exist not to separate folks by ideology or style of dress, but underlying biological differences — differences not denoted by the term ‘transgender’.
Fortunately, sports organizations like World Athletics and World Aquatics do not believe simplicity is the most important goal.
But that's too complicated for Republicans in Congress and state legislatures. So they ignore the science and stick to their ideological principle.
It’s not about simplicity - it’s about factual accuracy. But, Occam’s razor here would apply here also.
It’s not about ignoring science - it’s about recognizing that a person’s “feelings,” even if held in good faith, have limitations when faced with objective reality.
World Athletics and World Aquatics are the ones who are recognizing the objective reality.
GOP lawmakers are inciting the fear for more votes and campaign donations.

Would you support applying the World Athletics policy to this situation?
And would you support adopting each governing body's standard throughout all levels, in all countries, (should all fifty states apply the World Athletics standard to track and field for all schools that compete in their respective state championships, for example)?

Further, the position that trans girls and women (XY humans) should be allowed to play in girls' and women's sports or they might commit suicide perpetuates the tyranny of the minority and sets a horrible precedent for society.
It literally teaches people that if they want to get what they want, no matter how absurd or how it will trample on the rights of others, the trump card is to threaten suicide.
If there is a suicide issue in the trans community (and the data on that isn't so conclusive) the response should be therapy, mental health support, love and support from their family and friends, and so on.
The solution is NOT a tyranny of the minority at the expense of XX humans.
Here is a novel idea.
If you really want to protect women's and girls' sports, you should denounce the Rightwing Cultural Warriors who are using women and girls as their props. Those people would lose all their interest in women's sports as soon as trans athletes are banned. Even worse, they will fight tooth and nails anything else that expands the opportunity for girls and women in sports.
This might be an issue of its own to you. But for trans youths, this looks like yet another version of relentless attack on their identity. It may start with sports, but it will not end with sports. There are already many anti trans bills passed by the same people who pushed the sports ban. How can they believe this is about protecting women's and girls' sports when they see they are attacked in all other aspects of life by the same people?

Ok. We are talking about high school athletics anyway.
The standard in many places is that a boy can simply say he’s a girl and will be allowed to compete as a girl. School boards are scared of getting sued and just go along with it. Until the last few years, we called that fraud. Now you get two medals, one for being so brave from the most radical of the radical wing of the left, and another for beating all of the girls into submission.
This happened in my state’s state meet this year and it wasn’t Connecticut - a boy finished very high in a sprint event in the girl’s race. It took an all-time state record to beat him. He got 2nd. I won’t say the state or situation because I don’t want my state or the boy to get bad press on my account but it happened.
It will continue happening until cooler heads prevail and shut down the most rabid, radical wing of the radical wing of the left.
Liberals are usually the ones that claim they want more rights for women, and conservatives are usually the ones that like to advocate for more traditional roles for women
that’s why this whole debate is so backwards. Why are many liberals insistent on taking a position that weakens women’s sports? If we continue to allow men (by sex) to participate as women, then women’s sports will over the long run deteriorate. Allowing people to just identify as the other gender because they can’t keep up in their own division is so absurd
Positions change over time. What you say was the case in the past. Nowadays democrats are in favor of racism and segregation as well while republicans accept equal rights and opportunity
Wrong. Democrats root for the underdog and seek to correct the racist and sexist conditions that made the underdog oppressed. Let's say for the sake of argument that white people had virtually all been brought here as slaves over a period of 250 years, that shortly after their emancipation, they were made second-class citizens under segregation, lasting until, say, 1965, and that they continued today to live in segregated conditions, have a harder time getting bank loans for housing, make much less money, have very little wealth, live shorter lives, be sent to prison more, and so forth. Would you really call Democrats racist for attempting to change the fundamental conditions under which white people had come to live in such circumstances?
The trans issue is distinct. Democrats want people to lead the lives they choose. Hence, the party has supported trans rights. At the same time, many Democrats recognize that it makes no sense to both have a protected category in athletics (female) and to allow biological males into it, and that it is unwise to eliminate separation by sex in bathrooms and locker rooms.
World Athletics and World Aquatics are the ones who are recognizing the objective reality.

I would support applying the WA policy from 7th to 12th grade in track & field. K-6 probably does not need any policy. In terms of others sports in high school and middle school, it's up to them. (Their governing body has to make their own policy first.)
As for other countries, I think their senior level competitions are governed by the WA policy. If they want to have junior / youth competitions under a different rule, that's up to them. But if they send any athletes to World U18, I think they are subject to the same policy.
The bottom line is that we should let the sports governing bodies to set the rules. They follow the science and try to cover any anomaly that may arise. Politicians want to make the policy as simple as possible, because that appeals to the voters. But simplicity should never be the top priority when we are dealing with actual human beings.
Funny you keep throwing out your opinion as fact and think anyone who doesn’t share your opinion is too stupid to understand.
I didn't call anyone stupid, I just said you don't understand basic biology. There's a lot of horsesh!t ideas floating around confusing people so I'm not going to blame anyone.
Put down the gender ideology nonsense for a minute and read some actual science, though.
Spare me your silly opinions because I absolutely don’t care, nor does anyone in any position of power about your silly opinion rooted in the overarching importance of the SRY gene for “sex verification”, not the government, not corporations, and not WA; but carry on with your Dunning-Krugerism I suppose.
I don't think it serves anyone's interests to post the names of the hs competitors involved and a 38' shotput is not exactly newsworthy even in the girls competition.
Letsrun should just start some pro women athlete group if you creeps care so much about the genitalia of athletes. It’s a free country. Go protest you cowards.
Notice the manipulation and absurd ad hominem attack. This person is trying to reduce sex differences, which impact the entire body from conception through death, to genital differences so they can call you a creep and pervert.
Ha ha ha ha, it’s your patron saint leader Transphobia Verbosa that on these boards most revels in calling men and transwomen creeps and perverts and thinks autogynephelia, voyeurism and exhibitionism are among exhibit A raisons d’etre for transgenderism.

"Many places" include only about 15 states and DC. Your state and CT are among them. But they are among the minorities.
Many states have some medical requirements for trans athletes to compete. NONE of them were successfully sued. The ONLY times the state lost in the court are when they had complete bans. Three girls in Utah sued the state after their state government banned them. They are NOT even suing the government for the right to play. They are suing for the right to get their eligibility reviewed. So where are all the radical left challenging the state governments? I want to see the list of actual court cases.
The GOP politicians who are pushing those bans don't even know one's sex assigned at birth may not match the reproductive organs. But they have "cooler heads" unlike the radical left, don't they?

If your first paragraph is accurate, then we should agree that there is a problem that a boy can simply say they are a girl and start winning.
Further, sex is not “assigned.” Gender is assigned. Sex is objectively measurable. In fact, with >99% accuracy, sex can now be determined at the embryonic stage even before an embryo implants in the uterus. And it can be measured in 100% of cases after birth. What you are referring to is gender, which is assigned by definition.
Where things get weird is because some are trying to separate sports by gender, when they need to be separated by sex. There is no legitimate policy purpose that is furthered by a division based on how a person “feels” or “identifies has.” To separate on those grounds shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why there’s a division at all.
No I’m just saying nobody cares about female high school shot throwers lmfao
So in your view, then, all female high school shot throwers today, in the past and in the future are nobodies. And all the families, friends and coaches of female high school shot throwers must be nobodies too.
Your sexist view that "nobody cares about female high school shot throwers lmfao" - and the cocksure superciliousness with which you assert your view like it's a nugget of great wisdom and incontrovertible truth you're handing down from a lofty perch on high - actually doesn't shed any light at all on how many people care or don't care about female high school shot throwers. But it sure says a whole lot about your prejudices, parochialism and pomposity. Lmfao indeed.
Lmfao indeed coz “superciliousness” isn’t a shining example of pomposity?
Nobody cares about high schoolers and that’s just how it should be coz they are not political pawns.
What kind of guy gets off beating girls in anything? Talk about one messed up individual there it is.
Hard to believe this is allowed, something this damn stupid actually going on, wow!
Guy with a trophey he won vs the girls, think about that.
I'm 6-2 265 my wife 5-10 140, gotta move a couch out of the front room getting a new one. A buddy will be over later today. Why not let the wife lift it?
What is wrong with people today, where is that common sense?
We are very impressed with your masculinity. You are truly a real man. Go home now and come back when you have something new to say on this topic.

And after all this, we generally find some common ground.
I, too, would support adopting the policies set forth by the governing bodies of each sport at the lower levels of the sport, including in the middle and high school ranks and the NCAA.

Yeesh, talk about inciting fear. Transgenders are not "attacked" by conservatives. Conservatives not wanting kids to undergo irreversible, risky surgical procedures; not wanting gender ideology to be taught in schools; not wanting males to compete in female sports is not an "attack." It's a defense against destructive, regressive changes in social norms and policy.
