It's like Mo Farah has closed 5Ks in 51 or 52 seconds... But I doubt he could have did any better in a legit 400 m... In fact he might have been slower... Sure if he trained for it for a good amount of time he could have improved but the point is distance runners are a lot better with a running start...

Her "57.9" was hand timed in practice with a running start!

You forget that JB was paced by world class runners, and that she was a generationl talent at pacing, running so as to get the most out of her talents. Even KT admits she is still figuring out pacing, something she hasn't had to think about that much.

More importantly, sub 4s don't grow on trees. It took JB five years to run under 4 again. Sure, KT's getting a few seconds extra from her shoes, but still...

Source? Then That's not her 400 m time. When someone asks you what's your 400 m time they don't mean with a running start... Whittaker has a 53.76 legit 400m time... One runner left in the 1500m field has a 56.7... it would be surprising if tuohy could only manage a legit 60.5 which is what that would equate to... But then again she doesn't practice starts much... although she probably does some quickness training... But maybe not...

Yeah thanks for posting and all but she never says running start... The guy says that and she doesn't respond to it... Just finishes her sentence about cap out... And jokes about hand timed. Which means it was probably a normal 400. It would be weird if she could almost run 4 straight 65s but only manage a 61 400...

U think every time they time someone in practice they give the person a running start. Sounds like a strange way to guage true speed.

I don't know where your "thoughts" come from. Who said 61? She just said she could run basically 58 whether you believe it was from a standing start or not.

From responding to you silly. You said running start. Do you know how much faster you are with a running start? It's easily 3 seconds! You r the one saying she could only run her 58 off a running start.

That's a big difference than off a standing start. Face it the guy made a joke and you took it literally. He was joking. Noone says there times for distances with a running start. If she was timed for a 400m in practice it was probably off of a standing start unless SHE SAID OTHERWISE.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a rolling start. The question I would have is the context of this 400 within the workout. Was it a true time trial effort - warm up and go out and run it fresh? Or was it after doing other track work to see what she could run with some fatigue to simulate having to kick late in the race, tired. I have no idea which of these scenarios actually happened but that could affect the 400 time run.

Yea but correct me if I am wrong heat 1 got the fastest 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 which seems wrong

Looking at it i think they did it at the heat level instead of the combined list. so Heat 1 got the fastest heat winner (O'Sullivan) and slowest heat winner (Tuohy) and heat 2 got the middle pair (Flockhart & Howell). Same patter for 2nd place in heats. Heat one got fastest and slowest 2nd place (Thornton-Bott & Ramsden) heat 2 got middle pair (Thornton Bott and Ayyildiz)

I didn't verify if that adds up for all the places but that works out for the top 2
