The article was initially entiteld, "Zane Robertston!!!!" but we changed it to make it more descriptive. Here is our article on his bust and fake excuses (he said he went to a hospital for a COvid-19 vaccine but they gave him EPO instead) which points out that in 2016 he expressed frutation at the amount of doping in the sport:
Barely 1% of Kenyan elites have been busted. Of the top of my head, only three kiwi distance elites come to mind: Willis and the Robertson twins. Meaning the doping rate for NZ is a staggering 33% 👀
So it was New Zealand that was threatened with a sporting ban and not Kenya? I will wait for Lord Coe to say New Zealand has to clean up its sport, as he has said about Kenya.
Lol are you kidding man we are literally in a thread about a New Zealand doping bust
You are impressively thick. The question was in the context of New Zealand's participation in the sport over the decades and no New Zealand runner before Robertson that I am aware of has been busted for doping.
in the context of NZ participation in the sport over the decades... yeah maybe I am thick because I have no idea what you're trying to say here. Did Zane not participate in the sport for New Zealand over the decades?
You not being aware of any isn't really much of a defence unfortunately. LHG has been mentioned more than once in this very thread. She was busted for doping. New Zealand has just been criticized by the AIU for insufficiently testing their athletes. How can NZ runners be busted for doping if they aren't being tested?
I didn't say that. You should try educating yourself. But a lot of busts is definitely evidence of a lot of doping.
Then why do you keep pounding your scrawny bust about a lack of busts in New Zealand?
Because before Robertson New Zealand hadn't had a single doping bust in its sporting history amongst distance runners. Unfortunately we can't say the same about the country he went to train in.
WOW. Never liked him. He should spill on doping in Kenya. Is his brother the one who moved on to Ethiopia?
And Shelbo on doping in America. Starting with her then boyfriend.
Fair enough. This board did have a lot of speculation and Bowerman will never have its sheen back, but Centro probably got off easy. The burrito part was very distracting.
Literally Right above you - Liza Hunter Galvin - NZ athlete busted for doping. She went to Mexico to get EPO. Have I spelt it out enough now?
And in the context of the AIU calling out lack of testing - It Specifically refers to during lockdowns when testers were legally not allowed to test as it was not considered essential. The AIU actually accepted this reasoning and further stated that testing had returned to acceptable levels since 2022...

The complaint about lack of testing was for the last year. World Athletics asked for a "please explain". The reason given by New Zealand Athletics was of Covid-related issues. Before that arose, New Zealand did not have a record of inadequate testing - or of doping in distance running - in the previous decades that it has participated in the sport. Robertson stands out as an exception. I doubt there is a queue of Kiwi runners behind him, waiting to be busted. Unless they go to train in Kenya.

Dude - really? Morals? The whole concept of morality relies on how societal accountability of "right" and "wrong" behavior - you think living in Kenya in a culture of doping in distance running creates any accountability between right and wrong?
And do you honestly think this guy even cares? He had his moments. Stood on podiums, broke records and cashed checks. He has the same mindset as all dopers - that everyone else is so it's not immoral in any way - that's the mental gymnastic. Therefore, as I said, absolutely nothing to lose.
This is the key. They are all doing it so of course it’s much easier to rationalize.
It’s funny that just saying that is enough to be smeared as a doping apologist here. The only acceptable response to PED use on letsrun seems to be seething, righteous fury. Anything short of that will get you shouted down.
Thank you - you are one of few with reading comprehension and context skills here as for some reason this post got voted down so much. That wasn't being a doping apologist (I know you know this), it's being real and understanding why this happens.
Oh what about morals? There aren't any - why are people so offended about that? Zane Robertson also couldn't give a single flying f--k about what anyone thinks about this. You think Lance did/does? Kiprop? Shelby Houlihan? Nijel Amos? Get real people.
But until the incentive to cheat far outweighs the incentive to not cheat we are always going to have cases like this. I am stunned people are even surprised.

"Running has been a feature in New Zealand sport since Lovelock. Can you name a New Zealand distance runner who was popped for doping? Robertson went to Kenya because doping is part of their sports culture. We have seen that about them. His bust confirms it."(quote)
You have told us ad nauseam that they are all doing it whether they get caught or not so you cannot have you cake and eat it too.
I have never said no one dopes in New Zealand sport. It is obviously untrue. But some sports and some countries dope more than others.
He's the one who moved to Ethiopia back in 2016 and claimed "death threats" though he couldn't prove it. Zane ended up staying in Ethiopia longer and developed deeper ties there while Jake returned to Kenya almost immediately.
Another red flag: Zane's Ethiopian ex-girlfriend Bethlem "Betty" Desalegn (a Jama Aden athlete) was busted for biological passport. I think his current girlfriend/wife is also Ethiopian but not a runner, which I only bring up to remind folks that at one time, he was touting Ethiopia over Kenya and even once claimed to be part of Tamrat Tola's group, if I recall correctly.
Desalegn was in Sabadell with Aden (and G. Dibaba) during the infamous raid.
I missed your post earlier. So you have found one other New Zealand distance runner busted for doping in the country's sporting history. I guess that puts New Zealand on a par with Kenya. Oh, wait ...

Now you’re moving the goal posts. Nobody was comparing Kenya with NZ. Were they? That is like saying my neighbor beats his wife. I just verbally abuse mine.
What really pisses me off more about his statement, if untrue is that he’s using the Kenyan doctors as scapegoat, a lot like the Mexican food BS. Own your sh**, you went looking for it, better yet, tell us truthfully who gave you PEDs so they’re held accountable n you safe others https://t.co/wjUKKYBT1v
Wow. never have I read a drug bust post with so much sympathy for the doper.
Its all like, "Oh man poor guy got busted."
Even to the point where, Rojo included, are implying its the Kenyans who made him cheat, Amazing!
"Oh whats a guy to do, everyone there was doing it so he jumped in too, don't be too harsh on him."
Are you kidding me?
An English speaking white dude from NZ living in Kenya gets this much sympathy for CLEARLY taking EPO illegally.
I don't think I read a single post completely condemning him.
Thank you! It's called white (more accurately Anglo-Saxon) privilege. Never mind his attempt at tampering proves he's a corrupt, lying moron who shouldn't be trusted and possibly a criminal (forgery).
When he finally decides to come clean and go on his teary apology tour, people will still give him a pass and instantly believe him when he says everybody in Kenya, from Kipchoge to Kipyegon, is on EPO. He'll have no evidence and will never have interacted with these top-tier Kenyans, but they will still believe him because he's white and can't possibly lie.

I escapes you but this thread is not about doping in New Zealand. Although Robertson is a New Zealander he has lived and trained since his teens in Kenya. His bust is just another in the sorry tale of Kenyan sport.

Precisely. New Zealand has few competitive distance runners. Even fewer based in New Zealand. The era you’re talking about as well had few athletes get busted in general. How many Kenyans got popped from 1968-1984 let’s say? Nobody is arguing that Kenya doesn’t have a problem with doping but blaming the country for this athlete doping and blatantly lying about it is ridiculous.
