So runners don't know the difference between their knee and toe? Most of those who have seen it say she didn't touch the barrier. Those defending her are using her toe statement as evidence, but here you are saying she doesn't know. If that's true then how can we be certain she hit it at all if she doesn't even remember.

This is a little bit of a tangent, but I disagree when the color analyst is talking about two runners going for say the third spot over the last water jump and they say oh look that one person did a poor water jump and they fell behind by a second or two because their competitor did a great water jump. This can and does happen, but there's a second possibility, and that is that one person it's just significantly more exhausted than the other and when you are significantly exhausted and you go over the last water jump, even if you display perfect form, just the very fact of landing the jump totally drains you of energy and so you naturally fall behind by 1 or 2 seconds.

Good news (for those that like her). Leah has bounced back from the devastation of falling in the steeple and is back on the horse and competing again. Just released a statement saying she would be running in the Stockholm Diamond League steeplechase on July 4. Good on her. And for all those that thought she was way out of her league trying to keep up with Coburn and Frerichs and that caused her to be sloppy on her jumps she said:

"After slowing down and processing, I know I just got a little bit ahead of myself in the final and wasn’t focusing enough on hurdling mechanics when it really counted. I’m fit and the pace was NOT over my head, but I’d only run 3 competitive steeples since 2017 going into the final at the Olympic Trials… so I’m giving myself a lot of grace and being kind to my brain for not executing that one barrier perfectly."

Good luck to her in Stockholm.

Not like somebody else tripped her, she caused her own mistake. That's just life, nobody is owed a spot on Team USA. Seems silly to feel "gutted" unless she's your loved one, relative, close friend, teammate.

Look, less than 2 weeks later and she’s made fools of a majority of posters: 9:16, 5th fastest American all-time, just edged out for 4th in Diamond League event. More PBs on the way. But, then again, this is the message board where someone said earlier today that Sarah Hall (2:20:32) wasn’t world class.

How about every poster who objects to a runner being referred to as world class posts their PBs?

Not sure if you can be considered world class if you are 30-seconds behind the WR in a 3000m event.

Leah finished just 6 seconds behind that WR holder…. And was closing hard… During recent interview Emma Coburn said the 8:44 record was suspicious as hell…. After all Emma herself is 17 seconds behind that record and she’s Olympics medalist and world champ.
