Jakob Ingebrigtsen Wins, Then Loses (Is Dqd), Then Wins Euro 1500 Title

Update: Winner's ceremony had to be delayed, because the Polish federation now raised their own appeal against the decision to reinstate Jakob as winner of the 1500m.

However, this appeal got rejected, and they were finally able to hold the winner's ceremony with Jakob getting Gold.

I wonder if Jakob truly feels happy about this Gold, knowing that he primarily got it due to the pressure/threat of himself and his father to withdraw from the 3000m race and go home if they don't accept the appeal and that most runners in his spot probably would have kept the DQ for unsportsmanlike behavior.

Trust me, this is not good for the athletes to be handing and taking away and handling again medals over a 15+ hour process. Athletes want clear rules, and clear results and not just wait for half a day to finally know who won a race. Wouldn't be surprised if Lewandowski gets affected by this now in the 3000m, not because he didn't get Gold (he was totally okay being 2nd and congratulated Jakob after the race), but giving him Gold temporarily just to take it back again a few hours is incredibly annoying.

Let's just hope Jakob (and any other runner) doesn't cause any similar problems again in the 3000m and for a fair race, where simply the best runner wins and a 10+ hour discussion about who actually won and countless appeals won't be necessary.

Update: Lewandowski is not in his 3000m heat taking place currently anymore. Probably felt betrayed by European Athletics and withdrew. Or he did the same threat as Jakob "I won't run the 3000m if I don't get Gold" but when declined stuck with it.

Rules are the same for everyone. If you step inside and its your own fault, you are DQ. If you are pushed, you are not. Very simple. The female runner at 3000 was not pushed, Jakob was. Very, very, very simple to understand.

Now Jakob does multiple breaches of the rules,

1) Pushing the British runner at the start, causing an accident

2) Grabbing Romzys shirt and pushing him out of the way so he can have a perfect path

3) Stepping outside of the track (this I don't consider a breach of rule due to the circumstances of how it happened, but the events leading to it definitely were)

And his appeal gets accepted after threatening to go home and not race the 3000m. Then the Polish rightfully appealed against the acceptance of the appeal from Gjert/Norway, presented tons of arguments of why Jakob should be DQ'ed, used Romzy as witness who said multiple times how Jakob pushed him and was unsportsmanlike and they get rejected.

You think Lewandowski got any sleep last night? This is infuriating. They should not randomly switch Gold medals and rules around like that. Especially in an event that's still going on! Give Lewandowski the Gold for now, and meet 1 week later discussing it with many experts in a panel and the result would probably still be that Indoor is just a bad place for 12-people 1500m races. But no, they had to play with Lewandowski's emotions, make him feel happy for 2 hours just to change it again and then not even taking him seriously when he filed his own appeal. This is just sad.

Lewandowski was the ambassador for the entire games as well.

Jakob got gold because he crossed the line first, as the best runner on the day. The appeal process confirmed he was without fault. The contact only caused him to use additional energy--he did not benefit.

Lewandowski is fine. He knows he wasn't the better runner on the day. If he had gold, he would know it is because of an absurd technicality.

World class competitors only want to win because it shows that they are the best. A gold in this situation for Marcin would not show that. I am sure he is not caught up in all of these silly arguments.

Jakob was not pushed. He pushed the other person.

Either way, I think the stepping on the inside rule is dumb. I think if anything, the review should’ve only been for whether he initiated contact that impeded the other runner.

glad the rescinded the DQ, that type of jostling is pretty normal in a race, as long as he didn't gain an advantage or f someone over i'm good with it

LRP thinks of himself as a fast twitch runner and subsequently associates himself with other "fastwitch" runners, hence the bias. In reality he does not know what kind of fibers he has nor what kind of fibers are possessed by Lewadowski or any other runner.

I like him for being a huge fan of our sport, but sometimes him spouting pseudoscience with absolute conviction is pretty irritating and misleading for other readers.

I don't agree with him on a lot of things (e.g. the thing about THC/CBD being performance enhancing and the triathlete) but I think a lot of people are a bit sick of the antics of Jakob et al. I mean how many times do they have to do something like this? It's not like it's a one off!

I love how you think you know every single runner in the world as a close friend. How you think you know what their muscle composition is. What is going on in their heads. What is going on in their training. Absolutely amazing guy right here.

You just really don't like Ingebrigtsen do you? That's fine but your arguments are really slanted by it. Is it because tinman has been bashed while Ingebrigtsen has been praised on these boards? Don't make one training philosophy your personality, focus on yourself and what is best for your running.
