According to wikipedia, Conseslus Kipruto is shorter than Beatrick Chepkoech. He is 5'6 (1.67m) and Chekpoech is 5'7 (1.70m). Yes, she's taller than him and yet she gets to hurdle 6 inches lower.

The effect of the barriers is not just a matter of height, but also of VELOCITY. The same barrier is much less of hindrance at 8:00 pace than 9:00 pace.

Dibaba could run under 8:30.

I agree Beatrice was in phenomenal shape in that race. It reminded me of Abel Kiprop toying with the field in the 2015 Elmsley Carr Mile.

Didn't read the 8 pages closely so apologies if someone else did the math. I don't follow international track close enough to validate the context of Coburn's comment but thought the comparison was interesting. Basically if Bakali popped a 7:47?

9:00 > 8:47 = ~2.8% improvement

8:52 > 8:47 = ~1.3% improvement

Compared to men...

A ~1.3% improvement from the current steeple WR = 7:47

A ~2.8% decrease from 7:47 = 8:00

No sarcasm. The problem is that you are fanboys that fawn over performances and then pretend you knew all along that the performance was tainted. Either be fanboys or report what happens. Most of the performances and athletics that stand out should be plainly reported and not celebrated because most of them are surely tainted.

If you can run 14:48 you should be running around 9:00. ESPECIALLY at the women’s steeple height! The women’s steeples are barely off the ground.

Have you see Eilish run? Her form is not conducive to being a good steepler at all.. probably why she switched to focusing on staying in the flat races.

And it's not just about height and velocity, there's body build too, i.e. leg length and hurdling technique.

OK, this whole thread is TL,DR but I have to reply to this. Yes, women's steeple is new and young, and quite likely the record should be 8:45 eventually, but if the steeple were that easy then you'd have a lot of guys (and gals) who were close to but not quite world-class jumping in. However ... I recall a quote from Shumacher I think who said the vast vast majority of elite runners could not compete well in the steeple because, to paraphrase, they're NAFs, and it takes a level of coordination similar to a basketball fast-break layup to be able to run the steeple.
