I love the feel of the sub2, but I'm not sure if they're too minimal for me (165lbs, about 2:45) for a marathon. The adios is my go-to marathon shoe, in part because I get a bit more heel-strike oriented when fatigued, and they still have good pop when mid/heel striking. The lightness and forefoot feel of the sub2 is tempting, though.

I'm the same weight/speed as you and plan on using it for a marathon coming up. My half tuneup felt good in them. I like the feel more than my Takumi or Adios.

I've had the sub2's for about a month now and have done a few workouts and 2 races in them. The first race was a 10k (35:17) and the second was a 5k (16:50). I'm 43 years old 6'2" 150 lbs.

I'm not sure if it is my age or weight but I just don't feel like these shoes provide enough cushion or energy return for me. I bought them thinking they would be nice for shorter races and that the lighter weight compared to the Adios 3 I've been racing would be an advantage, but they just don't feel like they have any springiness to them. This new boost material might be lighter but it feels about as responsive as Styrofoam. A few years ago I ran a 2:41 marathon in the Takumi Sen 2's and these even less cushioned than those. Maybe I would have liked these more 10 years ago when I was racing in shoes like the Asics Piranhas but they just don't work for me now.

After that 5k I've relegated them to walking around shoes, which is a huge waste of $160.

Thanks for the info and sharing your experience with them. I bought a pair myself for a marathon this weekend. I tried them out for a 3x10min Cruise Interval workout last week and loved how fast they felt. My left calf did get really tight which was a bit surprising cause I train almost exclusively in flats.

Still hoping someone out there has a good comparison of them vs VF4%, Adios, Zoom Streak series, or Takumi Sen/Ren.

Usually a foreshadowing of achilles issues.

I tried this shoe. I was hoping to like it, something much more minimalist than the adios, but closer to the rocket (my favorite shoe of all time) than the streak lt 4's I train in. The heel is super loose on this shoe, especially on my small foot. The heel slip was unreal, I can literally take the shoes off tied down super tight, they're so loose in the back. I'd have been better running in trainers than a shoe with heels this big/loose. Just my $.02, I'm sure they'll fit everyone else just right and they'll love them.

Update on earlier review. After 150 miles or so I retired them to walk around shoes. I like my Bostons better for everything from 200s to long runs. I see why they held off on releasing. They may be so light they are faster, but no fun to run in.
