Maybe he did lie -- we just don't know what he said yet. Why don't you just provide Lydiard's untruthful quote, so we can evaluate for ourselves the truthfulness objectively against the established facts and history.

I watched a TV show back in the 70's about this Ethiopian guy who said he read a book about a guy who knew Viren. In the book it said Viren told him that Lydiard was his coach and that he was a big believer in Lydiard's methods. This is the Truth. I saw it on TV and it is written in some obscure book in Ethiopian so it must be true.

Do you see how idiotic that sounds? Simply by saying 'THIS IS THE TRUTH' over and over doesn't make it so. And when you are asked to provide some evidence you write: 'GO READ IT IN THE BOOK YOU STUPID MORON'. This does not actually count as real supporting evidence in backing up your statement.

My TRUTH about Viren, saying Lydaird was his coach, is no more far fetched than your TRUTH saying Lydiard lied about being his coach. Until you can back it up with some actual real proof your TRUTH is no more TRUE than if I say you are you are a raging homo who dresses up in his mother's underwear. Which I heard in an internet cafe so it must be THE TRUTH.

OK the truth:, we know your position about wether or not he lied. This thread could go a thousand more posts and your position isn't going to change. Who cares if he lied daily? He was a revolutionary coach who has influenced countless runners/coaches.

Without ANY reference to either lying or Viren, can you tell us what you think of Lydiard's coaching ability and philosophies?

Does it have to be EXACT quote, or are you "splitting a hair"? Or do you include this as a "lie" as well? In many ways, this is EXACTLY what you are saying.

Like MANY of us had told you, in most civilized societies, we ask for "proof" or "evidence" when you accuse someone to have done something. Usually, you simply saying, "This is the truth" don't cut it. Now that your mission seems to have shifted to "Let's deface HRE's hero for he had lied!" we really don't understand your point of this thread although you claim that the point of this thread is to reveal the fact Arthur Lydiard had lied. I am 100% sure, in his 87 years of his life, he had lied here and there. Even Mr. Spock "lied" though he described it as "I simply exaggerated". And since it seems to you that it is such an unthinkable sin to lie; we would like to ask the evidence/proof of your accusation. Absence of that simply proves that YOU had lied. I have noticed that you had been conveniently ducked this request, as well as some others as well. I, for one, would like to really see what you've got for once and for all.

By the way, it's "I have not WRITTEN...", not "have not WROTE..." Hope you learn something from this.

As mentioned before, I met Lydiard several times, talked with him, and have several of his books including the original. I have met Viren and run against him in races. I have Viren's book and his training. Lydiard did not train Viren and he did not train Viren's coach, any more than I trained Viren, and his coach and trained Lydiard.

Lydiard made up a lot of things that he said, and he took credit for "discovering" ideas that he got from others, mostly from Percy Cerutty. Did you happen to know that Murray Halberg learned most of the Lydiard method by training with Cerutty, and then trotting back to Lydiard with the details. Then after all of that, Halberg said that Lydiard was his coach, not Cerutty.

Oh I have all of Cerutty and Herb Elliott's books too. Cerutty did everything first, that Lydiard did later and adapted to New Zealand, which was the only difference. Plus Cerutty dragged himself up from the gutters almost dead in his 40's and was a much better runner than Lydiard in his 60's.

I've met with Lydiard; I've met with Viren; I've met with Snell, Baillie, Jullian... Never met with Halberg or Cerutty though would have loved to. A very good friend of mine actually went to Port Sea and met with Cerutty.

You sound like you know what you're talking about but it's all YOUR own speculation based on books you've read (and "I've met so and so once or twice"). I also know Baillie trained under Cerutty as well. So Lydiard sent Halberg and Baillie to spy on Cerutty? Is that your conspiracy? I tell you; that's what good coaches do; you learn from other coaches and mix them all up. In recent interview, Mahon said he went to Kenya and learnt a thing or two. So you accuse him of a second-hand stealer? What's YOUR point? There are some of us even at letsrun.com message board who think Arthur Lydiard was a fine coach and a fine man. For some of you trolls, all you like to do, and can do, is to deface Lydiard by making up some bogus stories and laugh at us who happen to love this man. I actually feel sorry for you that you have nothing to stand on, nobody to look up to.

Have you read "A Clean Pair of Heels?" Halberg specifically addresses Cerutty's claim to have coached him (Halberg.) He says it's completely untrue. He, Baillie, and Bill Rodger went to Oz for an extended stay prior to the Melbourne Olympics. They did spend some time at Portsea but had already been training with Lydiard.

I also raced against Viren while staying in Finland in 1975. I did not get to know him but I did know several people who were involved in Finnish athletics. There was COMPLETE agreement that what had happened with Finnish distance running in Munich would not have happened had Lydiard not come to Finland and explained his coaching methods.

And if I'm just fantasizing about that there must have been influential people in the Finnish government having the same fantasy as they gave Arthur the Finnish equivalent of knighthood.

This truth guy is as thick as they come.
