USAIN BOLT emergence and the Jamaicans unseen sprint domination, your thoughts?

lets stop the debate of whether jamaican athletes especially Bolt are doping are not, it's a non-brainer - they clearly are.

The debate should be whether doping in athletics and other sport is ethical or not.

In 2009 everytime I see the Jamiacans tow the starting line I lose interest in the results as I strongly feel MOST-not all- of them are on some type of performance enhancing drug! Yes in my opinon Usain Bolt is one that is on something illegal yet to be discovered but eventually will.

i am pretty sure all the pro athletes are using something that is either out right illegal or on the verge of it.

that being said usian bolt is still the most talented sprinter ever. whithout drugs he was a 10.00-10.10 guy, where the others were 10.20-10.30

Ben Johnson, a 10.20+ guy got down to 9.70's with just winni. so a .5 improvment give or take is the what drugs give them. so if you use the .5 you can see what these guys were natural

Bolt - 9.58+.5= 10.08

Gay - 9.71+.5= 10.21

Powell- 9.73+.5= 10.23

Johnson- 9.79+.5= 10.29

Greene- 9.79+.5= 10.29

Lewis- 9.85+.5= 10.35

now i know people will get all on my case for this, but look back at there early college or senior years of high school PR's and you will see. so my guess is hayes would prob be as fast as bolt if he got on the juice.

LOL very interesting but to assume that all the gentlemen on your list was on drugs and to give them the same mark improvement is ridiculous! So your saying that Carl Lewis 9.85 was influenced by drugs AND THAT it is the same improvement of an athlete using another OR the same drug 20 plus years later? Usain Bolt was never a 100m man-until 2008- as he didn't concentrate on the 100m in 2007 as he ran the 100m VERY sparingly and then in 2008 he dropped his previous pb from (true 100m debut) 10.03 to 9.69.

Usain Bolt may never be caught as it is clear - to fans, athletes, and T&F governing bodies- that if this golden boy is cast as a drug cheat now that Track and Field would slip even deeper into sport abyss.

for a track guru VIPAM you are still like an ignorant child. you think when Bolt ran 19's as a junior he was a 10.4 100m guy? no he was a natural 10.00-10.10 guy since about 16 or so.

why dont you check out what Greenes PR was before he moved to LA? why dont you check Gays PR before he hit up Barton, where the coach there was a scandelous JUCO cheating coach and is in prison now or was. i could add gatlin, i bet he was a 10.2-3 guy till he started "cheating" and they tried to claim it was for his ADD. why not add marion jones too

10.63 or whatever it was, and what was she in high school? low 11's? it seems like ~.5 is about what the cocktails seem to give people in 100m. instead of telling me im flawed why not try it out and see. its like EPO, i think it gives about 20-25 seconds in a 5k, check that one out too if you fancy.

I'm a bigtime distance fan and don't care for sprints at all but after reading this thread I see good points on both sides. In all honesty its more likely that Usain Bolt is using something despite his 200m talent as a teenager. Any knowledgeable track and field follower know being a great talent at 200m doesn't mean you can automatically run a great 100m; futhermore, smash the 100m world record. Then again maybe he is that one person that comes along every 20-25 years and is a superior talent!

One most ask which is more likely?

1.) Usain Bolt is using performance enhancing drugs?

2.) He is that one in a lifetime athlete coming to form?

Stop the name calling and just state your opinion although I don't think anyone gonna change anyones mind.

I'm sure you feel the same way about Ritz running a heckuva lot faster at 5k after not having run a competitive one for many year sand dropping down from marathpon training, right? i.e. you think Ritz is dirty?

Many athletes are willing to risk 2 year ban and humiliation because those are pretty weak punishments compared to the amount of money they can make while on drugs. If you are poor, you don't care about humiliation to make a buck.

I hope Usain Bolt is clean. Our sport cannot take another Superstar being linked to performance enhancing drugs (P.E.D) as we are just recovering from Tim Montgomery and Marion Jones. What would happen to Track and Field if Usain Bolt was found to be using illegal p.e.d substances?

Lamine Diack would sooner chew off his own genitals than allow IAAF drug testing to kill his cash cow - the IAAF ain't in the business of shooting itself in the foot. Besides, only the dumb f***ers and the occasional Moldavian hammer thrower get caught by that system anyway. The only way Bolt could be exposed would be if he were ratted out from the inside - a la Trevor Graham. Too many riding the Bolt gravy train now for that to happen any time soon.

I think it's about 0.5 for the elite ladies in the 100m however for the guys it's considerably less. This is why the East German women came to dominate the sport in the 70s/80s but the men didn't. There is some East German data somewhere on the internet detailing the dosages and expected improvement.

Ben Johnson was a bit of a one off I think. They were testing some kind of new concoction on him using a regime that no-one could get away with following in these days of random testing. It's really not clear how fast he could of run if he hadn't been on the juice.

You may well be right but a clean athlete will run faster times to try and catch a druggie.

You may very well be right about why Bolt won't be caught but I don't see Bolt dominating the 100m/200m for many more years like some of the 100m greats before him. By 2012 the world will have figured out how to combat Bolt's superior- shall we say vitamins- supplements and he will have someone to compete with and hopefully that someone will be a healthy Tyson Gay, Walter Dix etc.

Hang on, so if the rest of the world catches up to Bolt in the next 3 years it'll be because they've figures out what PEDs he's using? Does that mean if they don't catch up then he's clean?

I read where Usain Bolt say he'll continue to improve each year all the way to the 2012 Olympics. So what will he be running then 100m in 9.45 and 200m in 18.89? Yeah that sounds like a clean athlete to me too- NOT!
