USAIN BOLT emergence and the Jamaicans unseen sprint domination, your thoughts?

I have reservations too, but I have to stick with innocent until proven guilty. The recent failed tests of team members close to Bolt do cast suspicion. However, he hasn't been caught and in the meantime Bolt is good for the sport.

Come on, that's like saying Bolt was already a sub 10.10 runner when he ran his 9.69.

I can't question Bolt without also questioning Gay.

If either is clean, it's conceivable that the other is clean.

Bolt is the higher talent, sure, but Gay at 9.7+ and 19.5+ is just a touch behind.

My sense of it is that Bolt is the fastest man in the world and probably could have run sub 9.9 clean.

I'm from Puerto Rico and I'm not a fan of U.S or Jamaican sprinters and think every year several get past drug tests with clean results. The posters on here that believe Usain Bolt is clean without any reservations are either new to the sport or extremely naive! I'm not willing to say he's dirty but I do agree with Vipam that the margin of his improvement so quickly is suspicous.

The fact is, most of the people on here are just jealous of Bolt's talent and have to instantly assume he's cheating just because he's the best.

People come along once in a while in any sport that are heads above the rest of the field. Not all of these people are cheaters. They are just gifted. Until you have proof Bolt is cheating, keep your mouth shut. No one wants to hear it.

If Bolt is dirty, then Gay is just as dirty since he's almost as fats and faster than Gatlin, Ben Johnson, and 'lucky' drug cheats like Carl lewis and Mike Johnson. Furthermore, if Bolt's improvement is drastic, what is Vessey's? Barringers? Symmonds?

Unseen to you perhaps. Guess you are not a true track fan otherwise you would know something of the long history of Jamaican athletics. I guess you would also call Kenyan and Ethiopian domination of distance running unseen.

What possible pleasure can they get following the sport.

One imagines them sitting, watching the coming world championships and sneering at the finish of every race - “he/she’s on drugs.”

I wonder what sort of championships we’d end up with if the only athletes allowed to compete were those deemed ‘clean’ by these people.

And even then - I doubt the meeting would start because they’d all still be arguing amongst themselves as to who is - and who isn’t.

The more unlikely event in the Jamaican set of results than one phenomenal performer, though that is extremely unlikely, is the 1-2-3 sweep of the women's 100 meters in Beijing.

If you want to do a little more than arithmetic, work out any set of probabilities that has a nation of 2.8 million people producing the three fastest women on the planet. Go ahead and narrow the pool down to people of West African descent, and pad the numbers in favor of Jamaica in whatever reasonable way you see fit. The possibility, or virtual impossibility really, of that outcome is a powerful testament to there being some shenanigans afoot.

The following presumption is that if some of the Jamaicans is dirty, then they all are, including Bolt.

This is a huge problem I have on this messageboard. A large amount of people completely tear down performances and call them drug-aided. Alright, if you believe all top-end performers are on drugs, that's cool. However, you can't have a double standard and then say your favorite American's are clean.

"The Kenyan 1:56 girl is clearly dirty (or a man), but Maggie Vessey is ABSOLUTELY CLEAN, no question about it, and if you knew her you would know she wouldn't possibly be someone that could dope. Also, all russian 1:57 runners are dirty".

I'm not saying Gay and Vessey are doped, I'm just saying there is the same likely hood that they dope as Bolt et al. None of them have tested positive so either give them all the benefit of the doubt or just tear them all down.

Jamaica has always had the genetics, it was just a matter of time until the stars aligned.

Jamaicans have always had the fastest 100/200 guys (except for MJ) They've just been notorious for their lack of ability to show up to world class showdowns.

Great Jamaican sprinters, either still living there, or in Canada, Great Britain, USA, etc., have a long and wonderful tradition of excellence. I'm not naive - I know s**t can happen anywhere, but the abundance of natural sprinting talent in Jamaica is real, and has been a dominant force in World Athletics for half a century or more...

The huge problem I have with people like you is that you apply your views on one comment to all comments you don't like, regardless of whether the comment have anything to do with your beef or not.

I did not mention Tyson Gay or the good old USA. However, heading down that path, there are about 41 million people of West African descent in the US. Jamaica has 2.8 million.

Massively simplify it and just say you were drawing names out of a hat containing all Jamaican women and US women of West African descent. What are the odds that the first name you drew was Jamaican? AND the second? AND the third?

Now, un-simplify it, and cast it against all of the other things happening with the Jamaicans, and make a case that they are not collectively doing something that other athletes are not.
