Coach, you do realize that these were predictions for his track season two years ago, don't you? Are we going to keep bumping this thread every season until he finally breaks the 13:15 barrier? Perhaps during the summer of 2016 as he is gearing up for the Rio Olympic Trials.

No doubt Fernandez is one of the most talented runners in college, but let's just get to the spring season without any injuries first. No need to put the cart before the horse again.
His teammmate, Lowe, is ridiculously consistent. They should change is name to Clutch Lowe.
Since the NCAA track championships are now one month away, I thought it was appropriate to bump this thread to help remind "coach d" as well as German's 20-year-old fan boys to keep things in perspective. Even three years after the discussion was started, we are still waiting for Fernandez to break the American-born Collegiate Record in the 5,000m!

So was a realistic perspective regarding short-term potential, but it sounds like they were both lacking in this scenario. I am not typically an "I told you so" type of guy, but many of the predictions within this thread were absolutely ridiculous, regardless of health.

Do you really think he wouldn't have broken 13:15 by now if he'd stayed healthy? This is a guy who ran 3:55/13:25 at 18. OK, the sub-13 predictions were out there, but the people saying 13:10-13:15 weren't crazy.

A very nice run by Farrell, but he still hasn't run faster than Bill McChesney and I think it's difficult for a runner from the United Kingdom to break the American-born Collegiate Record!

I highlighted the critical word within that sentence. You could potentially say the same thing about Eric Hulst, Jeff Nelson, etc. The point is, that isn't a small factor!
