Disagree with “opportunity”. It’s one thing if kids spend four years studying and get a decent degree and developing. Completely different to pay a few thousand bucks to 24+ year old men, pass them around keeping them eligible somehow, then send them home to Kenya after a few years. Exploitative comes to mind not opportunity

In googling Stehman it is a sad (but completely unrelated) story. I am pretty certain you are mixing up the two Smiths, which is a common mistake

Martin Smith - coached at UVA in the early 80s, then Wisconsin in the 80s and 90s, then Oregon in 1998 when he would have coached Travis Stehman, then Oklahoma (OU) in 2005, then Iowa State since 2013.

Dave Smith - coached at UW briefly in the late 90s, then Texas Tech, and then at OK State (OSU) since 2002

Rules and guidelines can be changed, especially when popular pressure forces them to. For those who are confused, that is why we are discussing. This is a process of testing ideas, surfacing counterarguments, and identifying the most potent, defensible lines of attack. The community is organizing and talking is part of that of process.

In my opinion, I highly doubt that the "kenyaization" of NCAA XC will survive to the end of the decade. Is there anyone who can persuasively argue that "kenyaization" is a good use of taxpayer money? I doubt it; the whole situation is just too weird.

To anyone out there that is depressed and sad during this time of the year reach out to someone. For college athletes that have teammates that you know are alone during this time of the year invite them home for the holidays with you. Remember suicide is never the answer if your depressed talk to someone ask for help.

Ran for Dave a long time ago. Won't say much about my experience but will say I support anyone who speaks out against him. Importing talent just shouts to the world you're too pathetic of a coach to develop talent yourself. Also, foreigners are more likely to tolerate terrible treatment because they have more to lose. Native born athletes can more easily transfer or quit. Happy to see more people calling out Dave for what he is.

Dave Smith is a jerk extraordinaire. This poster above is the most recent of many on these boards who has spoken out against Dave Smith. Almost everyone, if not everyone, who has the misfortune of running for him or knowing him personally seems to strongly dislike him. So the Smith simps on here that I argued with yesterday cannot keep saying that it’s just me and a couple others. It’s several posters on multiple threads now who have spoken out against Smith’s behavior and unfair recruiting practices. Just think about the fact that this man literally just won NCAAs and most of the threads are about how bad Dave is, rather than celebrating his victory. That tells you everything you need to know right there.

It's clear that the world is full of people cheating. It's standard. You know how you're supposed to tell half truths, keep your business to yourself, and put forth an image of confidence and impartiality?

You know how you're not supposed to rat in the criminal world, and how you're supposed to remain silent in your best interest when dealing with police or when you get pulled over?

You ever heard the Wittgenstein quote about letting things be passed in silence?

The world is all about measured deceit and somber accepting it and choosing to not put your neck on the line for anyone.

Everyone is cheating, and in a way, no one is cjeating.

There's no good reason to point fingers at particular athletes for cheating. The fact is that all athletes have motivations to cheat.

If an athlete is experiencing the triad of caloric insufficiency, the syndrome; is it not understandable that that athlete would supplement to increase their testosterone, hematocrit, or igf-1 levels to get them back up to sufficiency?

If I get tested for hematocrit and am at 39%, would it not make more sense to be at 47%?

Testosterone, free at 8 ng/dl, or perhaps eleven - should we increase it to 20 ng/dl and also improve our overall health in the process?

In briefly looking at Centrowitz' NCAA career on World Athletics the only meet that stood out to me was 2009 NCAA indoors. It has to be a situation in which a heat/semifinal was controversial. I didn't see any other race that was borderline qualification. But in that 2009 meet as a freshman Centrowitz was 5th in the heat and advanced to the final, where he finished 6th.

I have no idea what the criteria were, or what the controversy was.
