I'm absolutely shocked that Tanaka isn't charging ahead right now
We’ve changed the thread title many times. At one point, it was called: Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships Day 8 Live Discussion Thread - US men bomb out of 4 x 400, Jamaica men bomb out of 4 x 100
I'm absolutely shocked that Tanaka isn't charging ahead right now
Do not underestimate the intimidating effect of Houlihan's Yakuza tattoos.
3L17.17 1st 1k. That’s slow. Does that help Kipyegon over Chebet? 79.09 last 400. Shelby and Josette are 1-2 baby!!! Chebet is running in lane 2. I know it’s slow but I’d just move up if I was her.
95% humidity in Tokyo
3:17 for the first, crawling as expected
Ugh Shelby in the lead....
3:17.17 first km
Another jog and kick , yawn. At least there is a commercial break to take up most of the race.
Go pork burritos!
Go dodgy food trucks!
Jonathan Gault: ”Eeryone is talking about the Kenyan 1-2. But what about the American 1-2?”
He’s joking.
5:07 1st 1600. Kipyegon is now in lane 2.
The last 400 from 1k to 1400 was 73.03.
And now from 1400 to 1800 is another 73 - 73.09.
Not sure why I thought they might actually show this final in its entirety

2k 6:20.05 so wth that was a 3:02?
Houlihan looks like a million dollars, but her facial expression somewhat tense, because she ingests negative press from some people. Paula Radcliffe is predicting that if the race is around 1420 then Houlihan could be a factor
I feel like Ngetich will push at some point - from the 10K she must know she can't survive Chebet, Battocletti, Tsegay, and now Kipyegon
1800 to 2200 - 72.38
2200-2600 73.86
Halfway split was 7:51
Shelby and Josetted still 1-2.

She should have pushed already. This type of race doesn't suit her at all.
To be honest, I’m surprised Ngetich hasn’t pushed it.
3k - 9:18.72. So that’s a 2:58?
that lap was a 68.75. Shelby still leading.
I want to marry the Italian runner
Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe are two wonderful commentators. Radcliffe is saying that the Japanese Tanaka could do something seriously good in this race if the pace stays quite slow.
Steve Cram is mentioning that Ngetich lacks finishing speed and so it would be in her interest to make the pace faster.
is shelby trying to make a statement? no way she's going to lead the whole thing
