Nova has had a long time philosophy on relays, if not a 10-15M lead or more, don't even hand off in the lead, to break the wind etc..It looked to me like he had more run in him, he might be the best guy 15-5K or close right now.
All due respect to Nova, dumb philosophy. I wasn’t calling out Marco, it seemed like he’s just following directions at that point. But Liam Murphy is a strength-heavy guy with a good kick. The last thing you want is Nathan Green who will probably run 1:44 this year easily reattaching and then stalking you. The philosophy needs to change if you have another team you can gap heavily, and a guy in Murphy who can lead and kick.
If Martin had split 3:52.15, Green would have just run faster and beaten him. Same thing with Murphy.
If there was an NFL type draft for milers, Green is going 1-1 on my board. Have you forgot he won the NCAA outdoor 1500 title two years ago? I don't think Martin has the wheels / change of gear of the best pure milers.
PS. I know there is no way to proe this I made this post without knowing the results of the 4 x 1500.
A little interesting to declare something as totally false and than admit you can't prove it.........but to each their own.
I'm actually on your side here about Green. I think in an unpaced race, he's the best of the lot. Best 800m PR, won in 2023(field was kinda weak tbf ), most experience, has went 3:32/3:50.
But we're not sure about where he is right now. Looked pretty strained to run 3:35.52 at Bryan Clay a week ago, and Murphy/Martin had went 3:33 a month ago.
I'm not sure if he had been pushed to split 3:52-3:53ish, he could have done so yesterday.

this was a very interesting race. the weather plays a factor, too. Whoever lead had such a disadvantage - more than usual - in this horrible weather.
I mean, Green has a fiesty kick, but so does Strand, and so does Murphy.

We were seated on the rail of the backstretch and Green looked great both days. More talented than I initially thought. He was just gliding along on Friday. Washington was the pick, IMO, in both races and lived up to it.
If handing off right with someone, you may as well be on the shoulder (not an unusual philosophy). However, you will take a 10m lead anytime you can get it. That 1.5sec or so can make all the difference. Once Green was in contact, he instantly became the favorite there.
Good to see Georgetown take both 4x8 and SMR titles. Matsatsa getting it done.
Appleton is clearly racing with confidence and measuring her effort better than ever. Holding at the rear of the pack, smoothly covering moves, then a scything shift to top end with 50m to go. Sweet timing and execution.

and so is Paige with the way she separated in last 50 vs Chepngetich (4x800)
Perhaps focusing on training ahead of later meets. But I am wondering about the status of Hannah Gapes. Hartman, Bush, Napolean all seem fine, and Putman was fine recently at Duke.
More to this. The Duke Twilight is on Sunday. Many ACC teams plus others with almost everyone entered. Paige, Wolfe and Strand of UNC and Hartman of NC State, and the top Clemson ladies. Even Putman. But no Hannah Gapes.

Blair Bartlett 9:13.6 to win 3000 over Addy Ritzenhein. Addy lead most of the 2nd half of the race but could not shake Bartlett who then kicked with 125 or so to go. Huge pr for Barlett - prior pr was 9:32 and 10:20 for 3200
Just looked up the NJ school that Bartlett goes to. $66K/year tuition for day school 😵😵😵
