They have called the NCAA. Reruns are a super big decision that no one at the meet has the power to allow apparently.
The head referee of the meet would have the power to allow a re-run.
I feel like this should be true on a local or regional level. but not at nats. unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any clear cut rules for deciding on whether or not a re-run is warranted.
I've only seen ONE re-run in my 15 years of coaching, and it shocked me. I think if you allow re-runs, you will start seeing incidents that are worthwhile for re-runs at every other meet. or at least 1 out of every 5 or 10 meets.
One of the worst moments of my coaching career was when I had a really good 4x2 squad get a baton knocked out of their hands at state, and of course there was no call on it. And I didn't expect there would be in a million years. it's just one of those track things.
At best, AM dq and usc wins anyway due to poor distance and hj performances by Arkansas. They werent going to win and Ive been a Hog fan for 40 years.
Thoughts on Bucknam job security after losing both SEC and NCAA with the #1 team?
As a fan, Ill never call for a persons job. Ive had a lot of fun supporting that program since early 80s. Some of it is $hitty luck. Injury, illness etc. I cant imagine how hard it must be to build a great staff that can recruit, develop and coach a sustainable program that is always in the hunt but comes up short with occassional victories. Relying on kids from around the world in todays society including all that is going on with ncaa policies is pretty unpredictable from year to year now. Some programs can get it done with a sprint core with a few other events sprinkled in. Im a fan of across the board depth but its nearly impossible these days. Arkansas has tried to maintain that with a great deal of success. Its just getting harder these days. Too much instability from season to season. Id rather always be in contention with a chance to win the team title. Again, their bar is a little higher than most so 2nd isnt always something to celebrate. But getting knocked off the podium is a disaster.
My phone did not work that well in that stadium yesterday
It would be funny if the phone call went to voice mail because the NCAA official with the authority to make a ruling is out at a movie with his phone on silent.

He's probably like some 80 year dude in bed already.
Arkansas shouldn't be able to rerun. USC also lost time and that botched anchor exchange due to officials error. It wouldn't be fair if Arkansas best their time in a rerun.

I would think so, but they stated otherwise on ESPN+.
NCAA Rule 4, Section 4, Article 2(c):
The referee(s) shall:
c. Decide all questions regarding re-staging an event
Article 3:
The referee's decisions in all matters shall be final and without appeal, except in those meets in which an appointed jury of appeals has been established for that specific purpose. The jury of appeals then will have the final authority.
I'm guessing Arkansas wants a re-run to jump up to 2nd or 3rd in the team score. That gets them a precious little trophy and the coaches probably get a bonus.

If they pull ahead in points, USC could get a rerun alone too.

Well they need to make a decision either way, its been way too long already.

i agree. IF there is a re-run, all teams from that heat should be eligible to participate. Keep your standing time, or start from scratch.
would still make for an interesting-tough decision. If they were to re-run at this point, you're looking at around an hour of rest. Maybe even 90 mins to 2 hours.

I thought NCAA meets were also held under USATF and IAAF rules to allow marks to count for qualification. If NCAA rules don't cover a situation such as a re-run why aren't they defaulting to the other certifying organization rules?
