If you listen to the Citius interview with Coach Palmer he says she trains exceptionally hard and is not always injured, those both are total misconceptions. However, it did sound like she is a challenge to coach. As a Bostonian I’m confused as to why a 10,000m runner of her caliber would want to train here (although Blanks is making it work) but I think she put the team she liked first vs training system. It has never sounded like Coogan recruited her. Whatever is going on, watching Taylor Roe crush it must be starting to sting.
The reason why this thread started is because Parker Valby isn't actually worth a lot of money and always injured. Her only media presence is primarily posts odd selfies with a puckering, duck face. She barely competes and door say lacks the drive needed to succeed. Her father may have pushed for a big sponsorship deal with New Balance, but in reality, they ( New Balance ) got a bad deal. The competitive scene among college women is evolving rapidly, leaving Parker in the dust due to her lack of serious training. Not to mention, Boston isn't the best fit for her training regimen. Personally, I believe New Balance overspent on her, wasting valuable resources. It's no surprise that Nike opted not to invest top dollar in her.

I doubt she’s really letting what Roe is doing bother her. Roe has been running well for a bit now. It’s always good to see another strong woman come along. It’s also good to see our youngsters running well - Noe, Hartman, Halladay-Lowry, and all. As I said above, Valby will be fine. People here are always looking for drama.

I hope so. It really is inspirational. However, in Parker’s recent interview on Ali on the Run she mentioned struggling with the comparison game. I’m really looking forward to all she has to offer the sport. US women’s mid and distance running has never been so exciting.

Blanks has no choice. He’s still in school. But he is a very tough kid and is successful despite his training situation. He’s going to thrive at altitude I’m sure. I do think Valby really liked NB and the team aspect but maybe was missing Florida. Who knows. I’m sure it will all come out soon.

New Balance's top female athlete is expecting another baby, which is great news. However, she's currently not running, and Valby is out of commission and feeling unhappy. The sole male American distance runner at New Balance Boston is performing at a DII level. Personally, I believe whoever is handling the contracts at New Balance should consider a new career path. That’s a lot of buck for no bang.

New Balance is fine. They knew what they were getting into when signing Valby. It is not about performance it was about eyes on the brand. The length of this thread proves that they were right. Mark is just being a company man and doesn’t care how she fits in with the group. The other women understand this as well and are just taking care of business.
The person handling contracts is doing fine as well and was very close to pouching an established marathon group in the US but they ended up resigning for another 4 years with their long time sponsor.
Isn't she doing a bunch of cross training (inside) anyway? She hardly runs so she doesn't have to spend as much time outside running as other runners who actually do most of their training on their two feet, running. I've said it before but seeing her awkward running form and her tendency to get injured easily from _running_, it baffles me that she chose to go pro because the very thing she is paid to do is seemingly not good for her body and also unnatural, seeing her strange running form.

She should quit running and walk away from all that money? Are you suggesting she could become a cripple? People on LRC like to talk about her stride being so bad but it looks pretty good to me as it’s long and efficient. Hasn’t she been healthy the last three years or so?

Parker is being well taken care of by New Balance and Mark Coogan. Both are and were fully aware of Parker's training capabilities when they signed her. Everything from the harsh Boston weather to her ability to train at a world class level. As I had previously posted, getting Parker acclimated to being a professional runner wasn't going to happen overnight. Training intensity, location, altitude, lifestyle, etc... are not easy to adjust to and takes time. I believe NB is investing in the L.A. 2028 Olympic Parker Valby. Taking a year or two to do so is not a lot of time. The talent is clearly there, and if managed correctly she will be very successful.
Yeah, and if I had to guess, she possibly picked up a niggle going into The 10, and it was Coogan that pulled the plug, since the first priority in the adjustment is to not get injured, and there was nothing to prove there.

Right of Machiavelli. Couldn’t be more of a realist if I tried.
I kid you not, Boston's training is a real challenge. The weather there is so unpredictable; one minute it's scorching hot and the next it's freezing cold. And let's not even start on the lack of soft surfaces. It's a nightmare that messes you up destroys you. Each step feels like a battle. Boston training is rough, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. No way it’s good for Parker as a 10k specialist.
I live in the city of Boston and do about 60% of my mileage on trails, all runs leaving from my front door. The trails themselves are primarily in Cutler Park/Millennium Park and include Boston and nearby suburbs. Yesterday was 10 miles and 7.5 of those were on proper trails. I can also run to other trail systems and many paths and parks, including Arnold Arboretum.
If I hop in my car there are many surrounding trail systems that are excellent. Berkshire County, still in MA and a 2 hour drive away, is a massively underrated running paradise for both roads and trails. The Charles River paths are extensive and many very fast runners so a lot of miles there. The Arnold Arboretum seems custom-made for running.
I grew up XC skiing in the winter as a sport (in Berkshire County, MA) and we also ran all winter using innovations known as socks, hats and gloves. Sometimes even pants and jackets. I still love winter running. You just...run, and the weather provides a nice challenge and distraction. Beats the heck out of running in the heat, which we also do here.
Boston is filled with runners and running culture, great clubs at all levels, many indoor tracks, and lots of heroes and lore. Follow Graham Blanks if you want to see many of the great route options. Graham, like Boston, is underrated.

You’re obsessed with Parker is getting crepey at this point

I'm in the s.e part of western mass. Please share some of this running paradise you refer to. I've hit up Tolland state forest, rte's 7/23 in/around GB, 7/102 in/around Lee/Stockbridge, and Ashuwillticook around Pittsfield. Strava is lacking, and I'd be surprised if I've missed much in the areas id'd.
