First of all, your numbers are wrong. Secondly, 8:35 is the anomaly by a long shot and that's why people suspect it of being "chemically enhanced."
At the time she ran the 8:35, her best 5000 was 15:15.95, not 15:03, which she ran about two months earlier on the fast BU track (Dec 3 '22). Compare her indoor times from 2022-2023 with the runners this indoor season and the anomaly is obvious.
Yes. Her fan base use the 8:35 as some type of baseline but the time makes no sense. Imagine if Lemngole pops 8:30 and then never runs faster again in the 5000. That would be highly suspicious.

you are assuming she was really only in 15:15 shape (10 days after running down Valby and beating the rest of the field by 10-20 seconds - some of whom ran 15:17 on that day)
Hartman ran 15:32 at that BU meet and 2 months later ran 15:19 with a conversion to 15:12 and now people are suggesting 15:05. Gapes ran 15:47 that day and now has run 8:48.
so to be comparable you should show Hartman 15:32 - 8:46.57

You have an amazing amount of time and energy for your research, seems suspicious.
Agree with rbtrack that when Touhy ran 4:24/8:35, she was in 14:50 shape, but just never posted that in a race. No excuses, it just didn't happen. She won the 3000/5000 double at NCAA indoor in slow altitude times that season. So what is surprising is not the 8:35, but rather that Touhy has still not run 14:50.
It will happen soon. She will run a smart 3:00/3:00/3:00/3:00/2:50 to get it, instead of going out fast.
Touhy has a birthday this month. She is all of 23.🥳 Plenty of years left with adidas for her to keep improving.

Your "best guess" is leaving out her mile times.... In her 4:24 mile race at dr sanders that year she was a second behind whittni morgan (who also set a mile PR at 4:23), and a few seconds off her when she ran 8:35. Tuohy was clearly in great shape at that time
Valby's entire group PR'd and she was unable to line up. I hope she can remain healthy enough to race The TEN. Every time she races due to her biomechanics, she wrecks her body with these injuries. This is why Tuohy has a higher ceiling.
The challenge for Tuohy is that she has had some injuries, but also it seems clear she has stagnated with her current training set up.
She has never been able to break through her issues with speed endurance in the later stages of these races.
It happens in every fast 3k and 5k, and she blew up in her most recent races. But, this also happened in spring of 2023 pretty badly, at sound running 5k and NCAAs. Her coach has not been able to help her with this, perhaps it is medical, but until they figure it out she may not progress like we all hope.

Valby was unable to line up? This is the first time I’ve heard that. Source?

Last year, Valby seemed to have a hitch in her stride that did not seem to be there this year at the NB Grand Prix. The NB lab has motion-analysis and force-plate capability (per some videos out there). So regarding Valby’s ceiling, if her mechanics improve further, she very well may eventually break the current American record in the 10k.

I like both of them. I know that is sacrilegious on this forum but I do.
What is wrong with Valby’s mechanics? She looks like an easy strider that chews up a lot of ground with her strides. Hartman of NC State reminds me a lot of her.

But I mean potentially after a few years of patient professional training and development (to try and not get ahead of the process and avoid setbacks.)

I agree. Stride looks fine, IMO. And it’s obvious from this video that those long legs give her an advantage.
