You gotta feel for Ky in this one. After missing the Olympic standard on this track by 1 second (13:06, leading Blanks to the qualifier in late 2023) he now misses the World standard by 1 second with a 13:02.
But he seems to have made a significant jump forward since joining OAC so hoping things come together for him to make the Aussie team this year.
I’m not sure how you can spin a 15:07 as good. I’m a Tuohy fan, but c’mon, it’s closer to a disaster than it is to good at this juncture.
It's not a disaster, it was an ok performance. But just "ok" won't cut it when it comes to making the US team and she has not shown any real improvement in a few years now. She's just treading water. But, unfairly or not, a lot of people seem to have much higher expectations for her.
I would say the positive spin on it would be is she had enough at the end for a 33 second last lap, and was not just limping home. But that is the positive spin of imho another disappointing result.
Unfortunately, doesn't appear Tuohy will break 15 . . .
she (Tuohy) just doesn't look smooth...has not in any race this year
Is it time for Tuohy to start looking for a new coach? Coach Henes took her to a certain level but is she the coach to take to the next level? KT seems to have reached a plateau maybe it is time to move on
Oh wow. Two other pros in the race and she gets a win. That’s all she’s got ever capable of. A win when no one big is in the race. Not even a great time
That was a huge run and PR by Andrews! She is still #2 short-track miler behind Cranny.
Oh please. Her mile days are beyond over. That’s why she’s running a 5k. And she won’t make the team in any event. Let alone any future Olympics

I screwed up (with Maclean’s effort on the brain.). I actually meant she is currently #2 all-time American in the short-track 5000m. (Thanks for the correction.)

No.
Today's 15:07 was an 8-second indoor pr, besting her previous time of 15:15.92 set at the BU Opener back in Dec. 2022 -- the start of her transcendent 2023 winter indoor season.
Katelyn mentioned in a recent interview she may run a race @ Raleigh Relays at the end of the month. If I'm interpreting her intentions correctly, this indoor season was not meant to be a "mini peak" a la Grant Fisher's 3-race rampage followed by two weeks of down time he just took.
This concept of sharpening up for a 2 -3 fast indoor races, then taking down time before ramping up again for a main summer peak, is something many pros have embraced for years now. In the US, it seems to have started with NOP under Alberto some 10 -15 years ago when he began taking Kejelcha, Rupp, others to BU where they set all sorts of indoor records before resting then regrouping for the outdoor season.
Katelyn does not seem to be doing this -- at least I hope so. Mentioning she may race Raleigh in 4 weeks suggests she & her teammates are on a long, slow full-year buildup to USAs in August. If so, she should gradually improve as the weeks and months roll on.
Thus, I look at her race today as a positive sign going forward. She gave a sub-15 a good effort, just couldn't hold pace the last couple ks. That indicates lack of conditioning which -- if my hypothesis about her training schedule is correct -- will improve little by little over time.
Let's see what Katelyn can do in May and June when the pros re-emerge and "real" track and field gets serious. If she still hasn't broken 15:00 by USAs, then criticism will have merit. But, not now.

Math's not your strong suit, is it? World lead and a PR at a stage of her career when most people had her completely written off. Good for her.
World leaders?? Sorry but there were no other indoor meets that offered a 5K. Not that difficult to win it with a good time if no one significant shows up to the race. She’s NOTHING

Is it thecoffeclub bro’s that pile on with the Andrews bashing? Does Ollie not get along with Robbie, or what?
Exactly. These Mojo JOjo bots make it sound like she just won nationals. Which she’ll never ever do.
As was said she won an entire 5 k race by one second. Sorry but this wasn’t exactly a big meet and there was frankly no one substantial in it beside Mackey who was right on her butt
