Outside of global championship golds, where all of the candidates for the best are tied, Jakob has the best placings in global championships he didn't win, fastest times, best performances on the circuit and non global championships, winning head to head record against the rest of the top candidates, ranked number one by IAAF...
There's no argument for who's the best right now.
The "best" win the big races; the ones that matter. Ingebrigtsen hasn't done so since 2021. Triumphs in the biggest arenas are how all the great champions are remembered: a moment of glory, not a year of consistency. No one would remember Billy Mills were it not for a day in Tokyo '64. This is what Ingebrigtsen has been unable to do over his main distance for several years.
You think Cheptegei is better than Jakob in the 5000, when Cheptegei has won one global gold since 2015. Who exactly are you trying to fool when you contradict yourself daily? Do you think you're writing these comments in your personal diary and not in a public forum?

Cheptegei is an Olympic champion but a better one than Ingebrigtsen, as his 10k victory showed. But in his specialist events, the 5k and 10k, his records show Ingebrigtsen isn't in the same park. You have to argue world records don't matter - but only in the 5k and 10k, because in respect of the best performances over those distances Ingebrigtsen shows he isn't in the conversation.

You're the one who's arguing that only championship victories matters, not me, and the 10 000 isn't the 5 000.
So for those of you who are keeping up at home, Jakob isn't the best in the 1500 because only championship matters, but he also isn't the best in the 5 000 because only being the fastest matters, but somehow Mo Farah who's 50th all time in the 5 000 is irrelevant to his claim to be the best in the 5 000, and Jakob can't be the best in the 1500 because he last won a global final in 2021, but Cheptegei is the best in the 5 000 who last won a global final in 2021.

I disagree. You are looking at their overall history going back at least to 2021, to then claim "who's the best right now". I agree that Jakob was the best from 2021 - 2024, but, "right now"?
We need to agree/define "right now" before making such a statement. How about looking at those 4 years separately? Like letsrun did? They just wrote "Men’s 1500/mile: Ingebrigtsen is narrowly World #1 for fourth consecutive year". So Jakob got the nod, but "Deciding on a #1 for 2024 was tougher than usual." Personally I'd go Cole - Jakob - Josh, but they all have good arguments.
He already is the best of this era. Last year for those who followed the sport closely he was the overwhelming favourite, only to be beaten narrowly by a dark horse. But when he's in shape he's still the guy to beat.
Kerr the best of this era?!
I think you and DevonDixonFan will get a reality check next month.
What do you think Kerr will run in the Wanamaker Mile and what do you think Jakob will run in the mile in Lievin 5 days later?
I will say that the winner in the Wanamaker Mile will run low 3:46 if they keep a good pace after the pacemakers have dropped out AND
that Jakob will run at least 1.5 sec faster than this in Lievin.
Jakob will run 3.44.5 in Leivin? Learn the sport. We will bump this thread after that meet.

Hocker needs to prove he's not another one hit wonder like Wightman before he can be crowned as the best.

If we are really nitpicking comparing some of their 5k titles Ethiopia really assisted Jakob by not allowing a 12:38 guy to face him last year lol. *Not like Jakob hasn't already beat him before I just like mentioning that
But I'm throwing another name in there for comparison purposes. I am certain that Mo Farah has even more medals(track only) than Bekele. Despite that I think most on this site me included would still say Bekele is the best to ever do it. You need both times and medals.
Bekele(times + medals) to Mo(medals) is equivalent to Cheptegei(times + medals) to Jakob(medals) right? At least at 5000m.

Also Wanamaker mile is about winning not time. Jakob's indoor races are usually about going for some sort of record.... just like his diamond league races. So your future comparison is already disingenuous

If some runner is a 3:26 1500m man (or a 12:40 5000m guy or...) doesn't depend on what others habe achieved and what the WR is but only on the PB of the runner in question.
Hard to believe this has to be explained.
So El G and Ingebrigtsen are both "3:26 men"? I wondered what the difference is between them.
Yes, they are.
I have never in my life seeing someone arguing as stupid as Armstronglivs constantly does (some people don't argue at all).
What he basically is saying: if you devide a group of things or people into some subgroups, all things or people in the same subgroup must be equal.
Both Hicham El Guerrouj and Aman Wote are sub 3:30 guys. Are they therefore equal? For sure not, they are still completely different. For example, El G has bettered the mentioned mark by 4.00 seconds, Wote by 0.09 seconds. They are also different in almost anything else.
Joshua Cheptegei and Geoffrey Kamworer are both sub 13 5000m runners - Cheptegei has bettered the mark by 24.65 seconds, Kamworer by 0.02 seconds.
When people on this board avoid giving the hundreds of some PBs (what Armstronglivs constantly does himself since years, all the time) they are too lazy to look for the exact time and divide the group of 1500m runners in 10 to 15 subgroups. People all over the world are doing something similar all the time. I always look for (or know in most cases) the exact time, but forming subgroups regarding PBs also is completely understandable.
Doing the same (rounding down to full seconds) in the 100m (as he suggested) just is not helpful at all, because almost any sprinter belongs to the 9 second category. But people often just give the tenths (9.9 guy) which is completely similar to giving full seconds in the 1500m.
Army also has argued that Ingebrigtsen in fact would be a 3:26 athlete if the WR would be 3:26.01 - he really is ----- different.

So you don´t think they will go after the indoor mile WR in the Wanamaker Mile? Interesting!

Almost every track race that is not a championship or team oriented is about time. This is certainly true of professional indoor races.

In post 1 Nuguse states that he has been close to the mile WR and that he feels that if it going to go down should be in the Wanamaker. So no fast time!?

Billy Mills only won once so I don't see your point here.

Fvck you mean, a better one? They both have 2 Oly golds and chep is like 4 years older. Also when Cheptegei ran his WRs you said it was super blatant doping citing lack of tests during the pandemic. Why are you now defending someone you accused of doping?

I think Nuguse has tried the last 2 years.
See his last interview with citius. He is going for the win
Correct Jacob has already cemented himself as the best 1500-3000m of the era. Kerr or Hocker would need not only to win more medals but also be dominant for many seasons and break world records. I would say that’s close to impossible.
So El G and Ingebrigtsen are both "3:26 men"? I wondered what the difference is between them.

I don't argue what you say. You can't follow an argument. It is disingenuous to claim Ingebrigtsen is a 3:26 runner when 3:26 is the wr and he doesn't have the wr.
