I want to give attention to the coach. Yomif, soon after Olympics, decided to change coach, joining the group of Gemedu Degefo, of course looking at a future as road runner.
In his plan there is the debut in full Marathon, probably at the end of the next season.
Till now, Yomif's longest run is 30 km, of course at fast pace, and this training can explain his improvement in specific endurance at the speed of HM, compared with the previous PB (57'41") when he suffered in the last km, in spite of better weather compared with the weather of this year.
Next year, Yomif will continue to prepare track, probably trying to attack the WR of Cheptegei in both 5000 and 10000m. Under this point of view, Gemedu is a guarantee of success, and deserves to be considered one of the most prepared coach in the World.

Do you think Yomif has a shot at 26:11 being 27 (28 at the end of next season, when athletes usually go for times) while training for a Marathon?
Not doubting a bit of your exposition, it's just that there's been a lot of talk about 12:35 about to fall once an attempt is set (JI, Aregawi, Yomif himself has a 12:38).
But 26:11 seems out of the discussion and setting a WR attempt at 10000 is much more complicated because the.distance is becoming more and more scarce in the circuit.
I'm even thinking, as it happened with women, that a 10k in the road is a bigger threat to 26:11 than the track.

There was reason he brought up Jakob and that’s because Jakob most closely resembled the very 57:30 performance he ironically failed to achieve despite calling himself the distance GOAT with 10 WRs and most adept at HM to boot!
