Jakob said his threshold pace Is 21k/h. 2'52"/km 60'10" half marathon with at least 3 months of specific training . He went out at world record pace , without any specific training and After and intense track season . To me he Just have done a big mistake and I m suprised that people AROUND him dont give him a Better advice on half marathon . Maybe his father or another good coach could have give him Better advice .
But I don't think he really was trying to just run the "best" half marathon time he could on that day.
He said beforehand it'd be exciting to see if he could even finish. He also acknowledged that the lead pace would be too hot for him, but that he might go with it anyway because why not.
He made it clear the entire time that this was just a "screw it, let's see what happens" mentality. In other words, there was nothing to lose. So was it really a "big mistake?"
It's just fans who put out this idea that he could run the WR.

Why is it a big mistake? What's going to be the consequences of this other than stupid people thinking running a single bad race means he won't ever be able to improve in the future?
Who said he can't improve over the distance? Another straw man. But when he asks for wr pace and finished at a walk he showed he misjudged his ability by quite a mark.

He asked for wr pace.
You truly believe that he thought he was going to threaten the WR? His own words were that he'd be excited to see if he could even finish
The would-be distance GOAT, whose goal is to take all the wr's to the marathon, reduced to a walk.
Is this supposed to be an own? That he pushed so far beyond his current capabilities that he had to walk? And it's supposed to be "embarrassing"? I pity you. Just a miserable worm of a person who's only joy in life is to sh*t on everyone who dares to rise above.
I think it would be hilarious if Jakob finishes his season with a 10 mile race next year. If he set a WR it would have it all-- an amazing performance (especially to cap a season), a WR at a lesser-known distance, and it would be close enough to HM to raise the question of what he could have done there. There would, of course, be immediate speculation as to his 5 km and 10 km capabilities.
A big pay check, the experience of running with the HM elite and giving entertainment to hundreds of thousands of running fans. What did you achieve today?
Entertainment to which fans? They enjoy seeing him embarrass himself? The would-be distance GOAT, whose goal is to take all the wr's to the marathon, reduced to a walk.
I am deeply sorry to hear that it makes you so uncomfortable that someone goes out of their element and give their best. He could have stayed at home, but that would not give us something to talk about.
Your fixation on embarrassment and labelling someone aiming high, failing and taking it with stride as an embarrassment is beyond the topic of this discussion though. I think for everyone following the half marathon per definition was entertained (believe it or not it can be entertaining to watch someone race). The pay check and the HM experience should be self explanatory, so would the rest.
Since he seem to take setbacks with stride - instead of going home to be embarrassed after falling while running the steeples during WC as a 17 year old he kept going at it and have now an incredible successful career at 23 year old. Who knows when we will see another try on a HM and what times he will run. I must say that its fantastic to know that there will be so many races, every year for hopefully many many years to look forward to :) Hopefully he will keep toeing the line at races and distances where he might not be guaranteed the win, so it keeps being exciting.

That makes no sense at all. Should he also run in an 8K road race or a 20K?

Jakob is working on his goal, This was first step, why would anyone expect to break records in the first attempt, He just participated in a WR attempt and felt what it would look like, nothing can be done in the first attempt. I believe he learns lessons for what he should do in the future.
I explained why I think it would be funny. It would make some people on here mad, would raise the question as to whether he could beat the WR at HM, and would be a "non-standard" distance so that even though everyone knows how good he is there would be people bagging on him for breaking that specific record.
There were fewer championships in the Coe, Cram and Ovett era. World champs was introduced in 1983 and was every 4 years until 1991. European champs was every 4 years. Did any of them compete in any international indoor events? (I don't think Ovett or Cram ran a single indoor race)
Coe struggled with illness and injury in 1983 and 1987, otherwise it's likely he would have won medals at the world champs.

So for the would-be GOAT it isn't embarrassing for him to be reduced to a walk - like a hobby-jogger?
