that poor split from 600 to 400 was directly caused by Jakob. Maybe stupid. if Gold was what he decided he needed to have, it was a correct roll of the dice. Pre would have been proud.
This is giving him too much of a pass. It’s not that he went at 600. He had a gap and blasted it. If he runs a measured 400 segment there hes not dying at 200 to go, and he has a little something for when Jakob comes up to him. It’s unlikely he wins but his execution of his strategy was just bad.
Nah, the 5000 WR is Jakob's to take - he just needs to go for it (and get pacers capable of going through 3k at the intended pace, which are few and far between)

But as you know it is quite challenging to execute in the moment, but easy to critique. One might feel a bit desperate to try the old Hail Mary when facing Jakob at 5000m.
Why does Jakob run all these diamond leagues? Why doesn’t he just stay in Norway and get the organizers for the bislett games to set up multiple attempts at various distances. Feel like the travel is limiting him. He could break the 5k record rn and maybe even the mile.
btw that right there is in a nutshell why womens MD running has seen such a jump in performance since wavelight came along - imagine all these races with Kipyegon if she just had to rely solely on the quality of human pacing which has always been utter dogsh-t in the womens events for no explainable reason. That right there was a throwback to the bad ol'days.
Atmosphere at this meet is horrible, feel like they have too many Diamond Leagues post Olympics
Diamond League is the current top pro circuit. It runs EVERY YEAR from April til September.
Other than building a break into schedule for Olympics or Worlds, there is no connection with championships.
This is same for Golf, Tennis, Soccer, Cycling, Skiing, Hockey, WNBA etc.
I'm actually somewhat excited for Michael Johnson's league because it incentivizes racing with the points system, not times. The commentator just said "you can forget about the world record, it's a race now"...that's the thing, in pursuit of world records, the Diamond League doesn't produce distance races, they're just time trials. They come close to world records maybe 10% of the time, and they set world records probably 1% of the time (maybe a bit higher in current super shoe years). I don't blame the citizens of Rome for not caring much about distance time trials.

Jakob is trying to maximise his 1500 ability because it's the hardest to get and also the most time-pressing. A 5k WR attempt would jeopardise his recovery.
He has potentially years to mess around with the 5K. With the 1500 he might never reach his form from this season again.

Actually there are other reasons for the jump in performances that are probably even more important.
