she was THE FACE of the us track team heading into this olympics.
the country was ready to annoint her as the champ (and all the endorsements etc).
it wasnt just that she lost - its how she lost. she looked terrified, petrified even during the intro. never seen a professional that nervous looking in almost any sport. then just.....sat in the blocks a bit, and lost the race in the first 2 seconds.
I get it, its a tough field, and silver is nothing to scoff at, but they way she let her nerves get to her was a disappointment to me. I wish she won it.
This was a highlight for me although finishing off the podium would've been better.
I wouldn't call it a highlight but I am glad we don't have to focus all our attention and energy on just Noah and Sha'Carri. If they had won double gold, it would have sucked all the oxygen out of the room from people like Rooks, Hocker, Nuguse, Fisher, etc.
Winning silver is akin to "damning someone with faint praise" as they say. She is good. She is really good. That is all we have to say about her.
the satanic opening and closing ceremonies were the biggest disappointments for me.
The French aren't "satanic." They don't even believe in that Old Testament mumbo-jumbo. But the opening ceremonies were just plain bad. That is fair to say.

Jakob In has been so big on the big occasion. He just didn't have it in the final. If they run that race 5 times he wins four. Not this final 1500, Paris...
They have run four global 1500m finals in the last few years. Jakob has won one out of four. He is literally 1 for 4.
p.s. I am a Jakob fan. But to say "if they run that race 10 times, he wins it 9 times" is insane (since we know how he actually has done the last four times he raced for gold).

Grijalva not reaching the 5000 final, and maybe an honorable mention for Ahmed though he did place high in his other race. I would have liked to see Guatemala in an Olympic track final. I guess Lobalu of the Refugees took up the recent trend of a dark horse getting fourth in a global 5000.
Yeah! What happened to Grijalva. Was expecting lots more from him.
The biggest disappointment for me has to be the U.S. men's basketball team not making it to the finals. With all the talent they had, I really expected them to dominate. It’s tough seeing such a strong team fall short.
Man Tsegay really just messed up her own Olympics, too many events and underperforming at all three along with making the rest of the field hate her and put a target on her in future races.
Maybe not my biggest disappointment, but I really thought Val Constien had a shot at medaling in the steeple final, but her race was completely non competitive and finished last. She was never in it.
Harrison (USA) in the HJ. A lot of potential and he is wasting it. He may turn out to be another NCAA field star that quickly gets forgotten. He has been off all season and could not get it back on track at the biggest meet of his career. Time to leave LSU and Todd Lane?
Easily IMO the biggest disappointment is Laura Muir falling far behind out of the gate and finishing 5th in the 1500m final. She did PB anyway, but the way she floored the gas the last 600m and was easily able to maintain a head of steam through the finish showed she held back way too much and could have easily stayed with the pack to start and more than likely had a real shot at another Olympic medal.
Instead we have to deal with Scottish apologists putting over a PB that could have easily been over a second better had she just run the damn race with everyone else.
That's just plain wrong. She still went out much faster than even pace, and a faster start would have meant a slower finishing time. She ran a PB because she held back early.
Men's 5k heats were a disaster. Would have been nice to see how it would have gone if people were getting tripped and falling left and right. Nur and Ahmed falling and not advancing were very disappointing (not their faults obviously).
