The Powell’s did all the coaching at Oregon and Dunbar does it at UVA. Vin is just the man taking credit for the results. Remember Vin is 72 and not in great health. Dunbar should take over soon.
An Athletic Director position is a prestigious job with lots of responsibilities regardless of division. I’m sure Oberlin vetted him before giving him such a high level position. Do you have any evidence to support your claim?
Lananna got “asked to leave” Stanford. And no one would leave being the Director of Stanford position for an AD at Oberlin College position on purpose.
It’s like when Jason Vigilante got booted from UVA for sleeping with an athlete. “He left on his own.” Lananna didn’t sleep with his athlete but he manipulated money making extra scholarships and got booted from Stanford. And you don’t want to even get into why Lananna had to leave Oregon. That’s a crazy story on itself.
He wasn’t “Director of Stanford”. He was Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Stanford. Being the director of an entire athletic department is a much higher level job than being director of just two non-revenue-generating sports.
Looks like the answer to my question is No. None of the people trying to defame Vin’s character in his thread (or the one obsessed person using several VPNs and web browsers) has any evidence to support their allegations. Just a lot of envy for one of the most successful coaches in the sport’s history.

That’s funny. So if his team doesn’t have spectacular results, the hater(s) will say it’s Vin’s fault, he’s too old, blah blah blah. But when his athletes do well, the hater(s) will give all the credit to Vin’s assistants. You must be really miserable seeing Vin continue to thrive.

Vin Lananna has people hate him for the way her treats others. He was removed from Stanford and Oregon not the people posting on here. You must be new to track & field

Yeah basically same story for Lananna but different school.

Lananna was doing shady stuff with aid money and scholarships at Stanford and got caught and got fired. At Oregon he got fired from PK for more shady dealings. Also remember he was removed from president of USATF for even more shady deals. He spent his own money trying to get back as President. The USATF let him waste his money only to be powerless in a volunteer position. Vin Lananna’s ego won’t fit through a plane hangar. It’s in Vin Lananna’s DNA to cheat and lie. This isn’t groundbreaking news because anyone that has been involved in T&F at a high level knows this to be 100% true. It’s fine if you think he was a good coach because he probably was a great coach. He’s really good at deception too. He’s one of the most dishonest people in our sport and has misused his authority along the way. He’s not well liked by his colleagues for many reasons. I personally think at his age he must be unhappy to be coaching at UVA. He’s like the old man who has no friends trying to live his old days again. It’s actually sad to watch but it’s all self inflicted wounds.

Lots of defamatory words. Zero evidence to substantiate them.

The Powell’s got dumped on by Vin and prevailed. Let’s hope Trevor and Joelle can do the same.
Let’s hope you find something better to do than defame one of the greatest coaches in our sport’s history who has made more positive contributions to the sport than you ever will.
Coach Lananna recruited one of my athletes a few years ago and this is what we took away from the experience.
1. We liked Trevor Dunbar, no coach Lananna
2. Coach Lananna told story after story that were just straight up unbelievable and disingenuous
3. Coach Lananna didn’t have a good connection with his athletes. Even though my athlete was a boy the girls team had nothing nice to say about the director
4. Coach Lananna promised a team cross country title in a few years. ( we felt he was deliberately telling us something we wanted to hear )
5. He spent most of the time showing my athlete a stadium he was going to rebuild and not enough about training.
The bottom line is we loved Dunbar but didn’t like Vin Lananna. We felt like he was dishonest.
I was at a USATF Level II coaching certification and after the day sessions I was getting a beer in the hotel lobby and one of the instructors told a group of us about Vin Lananna getting kicked out of a kids house on a home visit. The kids mom was a lawyer and saw through Lananna’s BS and got up and told him to leave mid visit. This was back in the Stanford days.

It’s part of his pitch to tell everyone he will build a facility. He’s the ultimate snake car salesman.
