What makes me very uneasy is the compulsive gambler who thinks he can read minds and determine what athletes are thinking by how they "look" after a race. That, and dissolute Brits who are passive-aggressive about their superiority.
Why not just enjoy the sport and cheer on whoever shows up to compete?

Syd sharing her Christian faith is the most important thing she can do as a runner. This aspect of her life is sincere.
I have been reading this thread and I wonder if the mental pressure is just too much for her. This may be why she cannot race.
As far as Mu goes, why she does not race that often, who knows!
I don't believe the mental pressure is too much for her as she would make the claim that God does not give her more than she can deal with. I suspect that unlike many athletes who are two dimensional, her becoming a Christian at such a young age has added the an additional dimension of dogma to her life. As far as she is now concerned, everything is black or white with no shades of gray. With age and maturity and being knocked down from time to time come the realization that life is not so binary.
It's her path to walk or run and she will learn. I wish her the best whichever path she walks.

Oh hun, but we ARE superior. Why not just enjoy that fact?
I'm not interested in how Sydney looks after a race. I'm interested & intrigued as to why she doesn't want to race though. So let's get to the meat of it: A limited competition schedule, mainly in ones own country, with bare minimum travel to overseas meets is essentially preparing behind closed doors. That's without considering the last minute withdrawals, her coaches dubious history, and her justification to herself that whatever she does is God's Plan. You would think that someone so invested in the moral high ground would never have associated themselves with such a coach. It really isn't a good look, but hey ho.
I AM quite interested in how Sydney looks BEFORE a race though. Whilst other athletes are smiling at the camera, or waving, or have a normal look of concentration, she is pacing and moving and looking like she is hypnotized. And slightly psychotic.
I always remember a comment directed at a US sprinter, let's call him Gaurice Mreene, that he looked like he was about to mount someone before a race, he was so fired up on PEDS.

Maurice Green looking like he was "about to mount someone" has nothing to do with Sydney.
