As I argued in 2020, the wet market theory has too many unlikely coincidences and lacks supporting data, whereas the lab leak theory has quite a bit of supporting data and is a far more logical conclusion.
Yet instead of considering the Wuhan lab as a possible cause, leaked emails show Fauci and Collins acted early and aggressively to suppress the Lab leak theory.
The logical question is why? Why wouldn't the two possible origins be considered equally? Or at least consider them equally until the preponderance of evidence pointed to one or the other?
The answer should be clear now that we have learned more.
After gain of function (GOF) research was banned in the US, NIH funded EcoHealth Alliance to do "not-GOF-research-because-we-define-GOF-differently" research at the Wuhan Lab. Fauci and Collins did not want to be linked to breaking the law by using a proxy (EcoHealth) to bypass the law and continue research that would be considered illegal in the US.
That's not to say it's an evil conspiracy. It's just a good old fashioned CYA cover up. To those who haven't followed the story, Fauci used the "I don't recall" defense over 100 times in the recent closed door congressional hearing.
Exactly. This is the point I’m making. It goes to the issue of the man’s credibility. You are, in theory, the world’s foremost authority in this field, but you don’t recall? On top of, you made a bunch of sh*t up. Man, that’s compelling.
It’s also entirely plausible that workers at that Wuhan lab unknowingly spread it to the wet market, so it appears it came from there. We’ll never know because there wasn’t a forceful enough effort to ever find out. The point is, it doesn’t matter which way scientists are leaning. We will never have all the facts.
Fauci isn't an epidemiologist and shouldn't have been leaned to provide NPI advice like distancing. You can blame Walensky and the CDC for not being clear in their messaging. Fauci has been a bit of tool but the idea he was the COVID dictator in charge of everything is revisionist / scapegoating.
At about 3500 deaths per million, the U.S. is 16th in the world for COVID deaths per million, behind Peru at the top and mostly a passel of Eastern European, former communist countries with deep distrust of government. New Zealand had 1097 COVID deaths per million. Looks to me like New Zealand did what was right for its people and the U.S. people and for the first year, the U.S. gov't, failed deeply.
Again, the US is an obese and sickly nation with lots of comorbidity. We are also a nation very deficient in vitamin D, which is necessary for optimal immune functioning. We are not a homogeneous population, and many of our sub-groups are more vulnerable by definition.
We never weren’t going to be at the top in per capita death no matter what we did, but many of those deaths were merely pulled forward by a year or two. That’s not a commentary on the vaccine. If you were in one of those categories, you really had no choice.
Also, again, we have an extremely porous southern border with no political will to stop the massive influx of migrants, who were neither vaccinated nor could comply with the six foot distancing rule. So, how much did that contribute to the spread?
Your death rate wasn't attributable to the general health of your population but your disregard for public health measures. These threads reflect that.
Modern travel escaped you? Tourism is one of our big earners. We locked down and early - which you refused to do.
Actually, Trump proposed this early on, but was derided for the idea.
It also matters that the population density of NZ is much lower than that of the US.
And perhaps NZ hospitals did not have the financial incentives to attribute deaths to covid that US hospitals did.
Trump failed. The one million deaths were on his watch. The only idea he came up with was injecting disinfectant.
The comparison between NZ and the US is not relative population sizes or density but the narcissistic disregard in the US for policies that necessarily restricted individual freedoms for a wider social good. As your last sentence also shows, you don't even accept the extent of the worst public health disaster in over a century.

It was both. Very disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

Are you the shill who wrote the puff pieces about Fauci ? You know, the Italian grandpa with wine and olive oil on his kitchen counter thing.

I am the shill that wants realistic analysis of what went wrong during the pandemic.
If your answer is FAUCI BAD! I am unsure how that will help us in the next pandemic.

One more reason it is extremely dangerous to let Trump anywhere near the White House again. He is not capable to fill the duties of the position, and he has proven as much.

Biden admin in @ two years: Lockdowns, vaccine mandates, vilification of those who did not go along, fear mongering, Justice Dept criminalizing protests, calling Catholics and parents domestic terrorists, over $100 billion to Ukraine which has resulted in the killing of hundreds of thousands of people, genocide in Gaza, has us on the brink of bankruptcy and WWIII and annihilation.....and you're worried about Trump!

Biden implemented a comprehensive response to the global pandemic. Trump did everything he could to avoid doing so.
Americans paid with their lives and with unnecessary suffering in the absence of a coordinated pandemic response.

What was that comprehensive response? Why, per official stats, did the US suffer such a high Covid death rate compared to the rest of the world?
That is a pretty good summation fisky. A side note, how fast did you the 440 in your teens?
I wasn't good enough to make my HS or college track team. The first time I raced the 400m was in... I think... 1996 at age 48 at a college meet. I remember that I was last by a lot. My time was 60.x. I don't think I actually trained for and raced the 400 until I was 65. At 69, I ran 1:05.6.

Funnily enough, the only revisionism going on today is that Fauci had minimal input with regard to our covid policies instead of being central to them.
Side note: lol at you (and I'm guessing Harambe) changing your tune. I still remember this sycophantic thread from a few years ago. At least you "really owned the right wingers!"

His retirement (whenever that happens) just got a lot sweet when an extra mil in the bank!
Someone with his experience and connections could've jumped ship after the AIDS crsis to Pharma and made 5-10X that per year! He played his part very well during the pandemic and is now rewarded for it! Jamin and crew breaking their keyboards right now.

Most asinine post I've ever seen on LR. Neither Western Journal (a far-right whack-job journal) nor the GOP Congressmen are reliable in their depictions of what Fauci said in closed-door session (GOP frequently says black when the witness said white and, of course, most MAGAs believe black even after being shown the transcipt showing white). You clearly have no clue about infectious disease, epidemiology, virology, or what public health officials were trying to do early in Covid when nobody really knew what was going on. The recommendations were best efforts with very limited knowledge and changed - as they should - as new information came out. The article makes is sound as if lab-leak is now the KNOWN cause, which it certainly is not. Fauci has been one of the most important people in the medical field for decades, yet almost no one outside of the medical field knew of him until Covid because he is not someone who sought the limelight or fame. He was a tireless public health servant who is revered by most in the medical field, even today. He would have been more than happy to make it to retirement without anyone knowing who he is.
Funnily enough, the only revisionism going on today is that Fauci had minimal input with regard to our covid policies instead of being central to them.

Actually, not my best work, my posts weren’t even that obsequious, mostly just laughing that all attempts to knock down Fauci had failed.
Neither of my posts claim he did a perfect (or even good job) at pandemic response, just that any mention of his accolades is extremely triggering to posters here (was then, clearly is still now)
My post today didn’t claim he had minimal input either! Just that he wasn’t an expert in epidemiology and prevention and shouldn’t have been the main source of policy! Regardless it’s hilarious to see the focus on Fauci, as 1) anything is going to happen 2) it will lead to any change in future policy.
