Weather for today's meets is high 40's with winds 17-18 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Tomorrow is mid 50's with 8-9 mph with gusts up to 17.
Friday is high 50's with 4-6 with gusts up to 9 mph.
Only races of note today is Statdlander, Ringert, and Stevens at 800 with Stadtlander coming back for the 3200. Stadtlander has the good indoor results. I'm mostly curious to see where Ringert lands relative to this same meet last year. He ran 2:02.25 in the second meet. Stevens ran 2:05.94 last year so he must have just had a super off day.
It will be interesting to see what the Boise guys decide to run this week.

On the 4a side, the BK guys are running today, and Preston IF and Burley running Friday. No entries for the Friday meets yet, but Edwards, Goss and Durcan are listed in the 1600, 800, and 4x4. Should be an interesting week for 4a, as the east Idaho guys didn't run last week, and the BK guys didn't seem to take their last meet that seriously.

Do we think any non-CDA/Rocky teams will have a viable shot at top 2 for state xc 2024?
CDA has had an incredible indoor season and are returning like 8 of their top 10.
Rocky is already close to their end of season track depth from last year (18 sub 5's already)

Boise will be good next year.
Mountain View as well. Rocky has had two meets with decent to good weather, while Mountain View just opened up. I think they’ll look very deep by the end of the year. MV also opened up the weekend of spring break, so they are probably missing some boys.
7 of Rocky’s current sub 5 boys are seniors.

They got some nice time drops going from Idaho to Cali….Janecko 4:52 to 4:31….hope people understand how tough it is to run fast in Idaho especially at the early meets with limited competition.

Rocky doesn’t really run into the limited competition problem, though. They always can have good races just by merit of their depth.

Not sure if they were referencing rocky specifically. Whether you have competition or not, 2500 feet of altitude is still grounds for a few seconds altitude conversion over a 1600 when you get to California/oregon

It’s easy to look at past results to see what happens with Idaho kids from various parts of the state when they go to the coast to run.

I was just stating that Rocky generally has better quality meets so the competition factor doesn’t really apply as much. Altitude does, though. Wil Ihmels running 9 seconds faster over 1600 isn’t a surprise when he won his first race by 14 seconds on a cold day in Boise. You’re less likely to see drops like that if you are running 4:33 and taking second on a 60 degree day in Boise.

I'd be curious to see how this changes per school as we get into invitational season, like the speed ratings that were posted during cross. Maybe have it tracked where you take the Tullyrunners track speed ratings and then go by week since track is more consistent in racing schedules? Maybe IAAF scoring tables instead.
Who would be the teams to track? I think you would want teams with pretty robust distance squads.

It's obviously a lot of data to post on letsrun, so an online spreadsheet is probably the easiest way to track and show the data.00 -
It's kind of crazy to look at how deep everything is getting.
Mountain View has had only one meet, which really impacts the distance events, but 2 weeks in, District III girls 1600 has 17 qualifiers vs. the 24 that ran the mark last year. There are 6 more within 5 seconds of running the mark. That's without Sammy Smith, Chitwood, Paisley Taylor, Baruch, Zoe Sims, and Whitney Hurd having not run it yet. The district graduated 5 seniors that ran faster than 5:30 last year.
27 girls ran the 3200 mark last year, with 9 graduating. 16 have run it so far this season. Once again, there are a lot of girls that haven't even raced it yet. Notable absences from girls that ran it last year are Paisley Taylor, Faith Johnson, Sammy Smith, and Zoe Sims having not raced it, and then you still have girls like Brighton Heywood, Belle Draney, Elizabeth Baruch, Sage Powell, etc. that might end up racing it. Heywood, Draney, and Baruch all ran faster than the districts mark in their Hoka races. There are 6 girls within 20 seconds of it.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the girls pass then number of sub 5:30 girls next week and the 3200 girls by Boise Relays.
For the boys, 18 boys in District III have run faster than 4:37 so far this year. Last year, 33 did it. 12 boys graduated. There are 8 more boys within 5 seconds of the mark. Once again, there are some pretty decent names missing from the list so far- Heemeyer, Stadtlander, Blaser, Clasen Chamberlain, Tuft, etc.00 -

Centennial: 1 (1 more within 5 seconds, missing Blaser, Donahue, Hymas- injuries are killing them)
Eagle: 2 (1 more within 5 seconds)
Mountain View: 2 (1 more within 5 seconds- have only had 1 meet so far)
Owyhee: 1
Rocky: 5 (2 more within 5 seconds)
Timberline: 4
Rocky is almost certainly going to get to 10 boys, Boise might get to 7-8, Centennial could get to 5 or 6, and Eagle, Mountain View, and Timberline might all get to 4. I feel like pretty soon you're going to have to see the standard down into the 4:34-4:35 range.20 -
It looks like Boise, CDA, Eagle, Meridian, and Rocky are all taking kids down to Arcadia. I would guess the distance boys racing are Kemper, Helder, Sheesley, Ringert, Stadtlander, Heemeyer, and Lucas. The CDA boys are probably both Cervi-Skinners, King, and Carr.
I'm guessing that Stadtlander and Kemper will end up in the mile, no idea on what Helder will end up in as he can race from 800-3200, and Sheesley, Ringert, Heemeyer and Lucas will all be in the 3200. I'm sure that Max CS will be in the 3200.
Predictions on who runs what times for which events?
Only Lucas, Heemeyer, and Ringert don't have results from indoors, Heemeyer hasn't opened up, Lucas has run 1:56/4:31/9:40 and Ringert has run 2:03/4:27/9:48. The 1:56 is a nice result for Lucas and I'm guessing a pretty true effort. Not sure how Ringert's times/efforts in those races have been.30
