The question, then, is whether a dramatic taper improvement coming off of strictly running volume is bigger than the taper improvement coming off of training volume that is split between running and cross-training. I tried to answer that; I think it is premature to make such a conclusion, and depends upon a complex interaction of multiple factors.
Maybe some insight can be found looking at how triathletes taper?

Or are they typically more “race ready” than runners, and don’t benefit as much from tapering? Maybe a triathlete can chime in.

Nobody commented on whether or not PV was improving y-o-y. You seem to go off on complex angles tangentially. Slow down Tex.
The worm has turned! This is now the VALBYMANIA Show, and the 2e-ites are just living in it! And they are going to eat all of the tons of cr*p they kept slinging at PV!
And NAU is getting ready to take down the NCState reign-of-terror Empire that has run rip-shod on this board for years!
This was never about physics. I recognize a troll post when I see one and your sneaky little efforts to insinuate something negative about one of the athletes in the photo. Same exact body that helped her win multiple NCAA titles and set multiple collegiate records. Looks EXACTLY as she did a year ago. But you knew that.
Since you are such a fan of all things scientific, let’s talk about camera angles. shall we? Multiple other photos from this same race and other recent social media look very different than the picture you chose. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence, right?
Yes Tuohy has been big for several years. No world class distance runner is as muscular as her. But she is a great college runner and she stays healthy through a healthy lifestyle.

No, she is NOT the exact same as last year. Last year, she was muscular and strong, arguably not ideal for distance running, but ok. This year, she is strong + extra. This was evident throughout the video, and the picture a page back just happens to be the one associated with the video - no tricky angles needed.
I am a big Touhy fan, and I hope she can get things straightened out so she can win! But, I am not so much of a fan that it makes me blind to the obvious. What good does that do for anyone?

You only changed one variable. You didn't account for the ability to apply force, at different body weights? What about the strength gained with the extra muscle? What about the strength lost by dropping weight. You can throw the work calculation out the window. Touhy's 5k may require more work than Valby's. However, Touhy may be more than capable of doing that required work.
