You have the State's best team in this one as well as the best individual. The course is flat and very fast so it is a good measure of the pure speed of the...
I don’t know if anyone else saw this live but this was one of the most thrilling races I ever saw for both guys and girls. I paid for a runnerspace+ account to see this and boy was it worth it

What did the girls race finish look like? It was decided by a 0.1 sec. The second place gal is a sophomore, and ran about 10secs faster than Englehardt did last year.

I was there. They were side by side the whole final straightaway which is about 100 meters. The sophomore, Elizabeth Leachman, doesn't have good mile speed so I was surprised she was able to kick that good. She's tough.
This was Sadie Engelhardt's first race of the season. The other two have been racing for a month.
This was only Hedengren's second race. And both Hedengren and Leachman have been running incredible times every time they've run. Its not like those times came out of nowhere. And anyway its not like this was a poor time from Engelhardt. She ran slower last year when she won it while most of the top finishers from last year ran slower this year, whatever that means. These results dont say anything bad about Engelhardt. Rather they indicate just how incredibly fast both Hedengren and Leachman are this year. But then we saw that coming from both of them at the end of outdoor track last year.

minus 6 seconds for each person for the 2023 squad. 3.022 course. However, I think the course is actually very smooth and faster this year than last year so maybe only minus 3 seconds? What do people think?

No minus at all. You ran what you ran, and comparing year over year is always an estimate. Weather is different every year, and that could be worth more than 3 seconds some years. The weather was more pleasant this year. I also highly don't give wheeling a course to be within 3 seconds of accuracy.

GPS data from several top runners shows a median distance of 3.00 for Saturday meet and 3.09 for Friday. Somehow the wheeled distance was measuring 3.00 and 3.06, but clearly with this much data the distances were closer to 0.09 miles different.
Since Rich wheeled the original course to be 3.08 I think 3.00 or 2.99 miles would likely be accurate for the Saturday night races.
