Expectations for Nuguse were sky-high and I am disappointed he didn't really race for the win...
But in absolute terms it's a respectable Diamond League debut, and I believe the best Diamond League 1500m finish by an American in a long time
Didn't race for the win? What are you talking about? He was in a great spot to win with 400 to go.
He needed to be closer to Jacob coming off the turn. If he wanted to win he had no choice but either to move past Hoare on the backstretch or to take the risk of running wide around Hoare at the end of the turn. No chance to catch Jacob coming out of 3rd with 80 to go.

As comfortable as Jakob was, it's worth saying that second on his DL debut is a very nice result for Nuguse. when was the last time an American came second in a DL 1500?

I think MR just meant what many LRC posters mean when they talk about being "gutsy" or "going for the win." He was disappointed the Goose didn't take off hard and pass JI, only to run out of gas and fade back into the chase pack.
You know, like Ben Blakenship kicking into the lead on the final curve of the homestretch in the 2015 Emsley Carr mile.
If Bakkali hadn’t started acting like a 3 year old (per usual) slapping his fists or whatever that nonsense was the last 50m or so, he probably would’ve shaved another full second off of his PR. Guy is probably the least pleasant and respectable person in T/F.

Really? You're butthurt by him being excited to set a meet record in his home country? Did you hear that crowd? It was awesome in there. He was hyped up and he should be. He's the best in the world right now and a complete animal.

Ooops. I hadn't seen this when I wrote my snarky reply to Rojo. My apologies for slandering you.
I agree with your advice, but I think it's easier said than done. To do what you want, the Goose would have to channel his inner Simpson or Centro so he could position himself perfectly. That's a big ask. Those two were generational talents at knowing how to position themselves to use their talents. Few can do that.
Plus, it's possible that had the Goose been closer, JI would have just ratcheted up the pace a little sooner or a little harder and burned the Goose off.
