I think it polite to call people what they want to be called. If someone has John Q Public on his/her/their/them/its birth certificate but prefers to be called Bubba I will use Bubba. Gets a little more difficult with pronouns that don't match traditional pronoun usage but I would still try to be respectful. For those saying "it's not hard" I would suggest you reread this thread and notice how many times the words "she" and "her" are used by commenters who aren't participating in the pronoun discussion but are well aware Hiltz prefers a nontraditional pronoun. Add in the difficulty the announcer had. It's NOT easy to use a nontraditional pronoun. That said, it's easy to at least try to be respectful. And it should be easy for folks to realize that mistakes are going happen when a person asks to be referred to in a nontraditional way.
As for the DQ, looks like a good no-call to me.
