You’ll lose that argument, I’m afraid. We can’t tell young people they can be anything they want to be, that gender has no meaning, you can get a doctor to give you shots and perform surgeries that make you the sex you believe yourself to be, and then tell them they can’t compete in the category of their choice. You’ve already given away the logical high ground. Once we decided that “man” and “woman” have no meaning, the rest is just a mopping up operation.

only girls can stop it though - and they probably won't. Boycotting races with biological boys would be one way to end it and I hope some girls have the courage to do that. Bad luck that they have to give up their own race, but they will be helping other girls.

No people claiming to be an elephant should not be supported in their wrong belief. Even if a crazy doctor gives that person big ears and a trunk it does not make them an elephant. Pretending otherwise or giving in is just crazy.

No, RunRagged, sports will not end up male only if they compete against each other in the same event. This weekend I competed against 10,000 people and more than half of them were women. I competed against myself, my age group, my gender, my age group and gender, the best runners and slower runners, and runners of different genders. No big deal, at least in America. This big debate about trans athletes is an artifact of the strict gender and sex segregation that exists in sports.

So…..serious question here…does he/she/it shower with the girls also? If I was a student, I don't think I’d be happy in the boys locker room with him there, but I sure wouldn’t want him sharing the girls locker room with my daughter.

But as you yourself say, the race you competed in this weekend, there wasn't just one set of awards - there were female and male winners, as well as winners within each age group. If the female category were removed and there was just one set of "sex neutral" winners, it might not make much of a difference to you - but it certainly would make a difference to the female runners.

Also, your experience as an adult participating in a road running event isn't a good way to guage the consequences of having one sports category for both sexes, with only one set of sex-neutral awards. You have to look at the impacts this would have starting when athletes are little kids, and across all sports including team sports.

Making girls compete against boys in organized mixed sex sports is the perfect way to discourage girls from going out for most sports in the first place. Even before puberty of adolescence, boys outperform girls in nearly all sports - so starting in childhood the places on teams and winners' podiums will go almost entirely to males.

Girls will end up doing other things for exercise, as so many in the US did in the days before Title IX. And as so many girls and women have done in the decades since (when girls and women have turned out for aerobics, yoga, dance, Zumba, jazzercise, spin classes, etc at much higher rates than boys and men).

More likely, in today's increasingly sedentary, screen-focused era, making girls compete in sports against boys will mean girls will grow up not doing much in the way of exercise at all.

It doesn't logically follow, as you claim. Competition in many sports should remain, as it still is, biologically determined - according to sex, age and weight (where that applies). It has long been so. It is only being argued now that this might change. However, there is no logic that requires exceptions be made to present biological criteria by those who don't feel included. They either need their own category or should undertake such medical measures as would nullify sex-determined advantages - which is the current official approach.

Of course, none of this was an argument at all until five years ago. Day before yesterday, people knew what men and women were, and acted accordingly. That’s all gone now.

Telling someone “You’re a woman everywhere else but in this sport” is not going to fly with these people or their enablers. Transgenderism as a movement is out to redefine sex to a conceptual choice. It is succeeding. The world is terrified of being called “transphobic” and being cancelled and thrown into the outer darkness. A lot of race organizers, education officials, coaches, even parents, will go along with allowing men to compete against women, just to avoid the negative consequences to their personal lives.

There won’t be a grand bargain with the transgender lobby. The cat is out of the bag. It is all or nothing.

People still know what a man and a woman are, so why BS?

If a guy has some need to beat girls in spme sport he will be treated as what he is a damn freak. Try walking into some bar bragging about beating girls in the long jump etc, he will be a laughing stock.

Since 1974 when Little League first became open to girls as well as boys, there's been a Little League World Series in Softball for girls 10-12. From the start of "co-ed" Little League in 1974, most girls in Little League have played LL Softball and most boys have played LL Baseball.
