I was surprise as well, but it seems Pau Capel is on pace of his win race at 2019, if by Xavier you mean the french champion... he is not running this year, so the field have only Capell and Kilian as latest champions in the last 6 years at least

The fact that Killian is still head to head with Jim, after winning Hardrock a month ago and testing positive for COVID last week, just shows how much of a D-tier joke of a runner Walmsley is.
Walmsley has been training for this race for months and is on fresh legs. He should be crushing it. I'm predicting he falls to 5-10 places, melts down, and then either jogs it in or DNFs.

dont count Jim out, after 3 attemps Im sure he is saving his best for last, if Jim is capable to survive the night and come to La fouly in good shape, he got a shot to win UTMB
UTMB doesn’t have soft fields so if anything that is a testament to Kilians strength. There is still a lot of racing left and Jim (off of hard rock or WS training) has been in good position precious years about this far before dropping off.
They are like 30 minutes head of course record pace. He is crushing it. Kilian often runs from behind. Francois ran away from him in the very end the last time he ran utmb. Jim might do the same. Hard to predict, I’d put my money on Kilian but you never know at this point. Jim looked good at the halfway point.
Guess Sage isn't finishing top 3 like this poster a month ago predicted. I'd like the point out I immediately laughed at this...and I like Sage. I'd never root for someone to DNF or do poorly in a race but clearly he wasn't going top 3.
Sage finished the marathon in over 6:22 hrs a course with over 10,000 ft elevation gain, Sage is all fired for UTMB and expect to be in the top 3 at Chamonix

To everyone else, let's try to keep the fanboi hate (of the other guy, the one you don't want to win) in check. Jim, Kilian, Zach, Tom, Pau, all these guys are badass and giving their all. This is ultra racing at it's finest, whoever ultimately wins deserves every bit of it. Great stuff!

Looks like he gapped Kilian on the rolling terrain approaching the climb, which makes sense. Both looked good going thru the aid, and Kilian might be able to pull him back on the climb. We'll see.

Exactly. Like I understand wanting someone to win, but no need to make it into a critique of a person's entire career. We aren't at an nfl game, you can be a fan of someone without being tribal and trying to insult the "other" guy at all costs. And there are plenty of other people who could win - it's not just Jim v Kilian.
